Seulgi loved animals and wished she could have some furry little pets of her own, but unfortunately, due to her apartment’s regulations, she wasn’t allowed to have cats or dogs, so her only pet currently was a pet turtle. She loved him, of course, but it’s not exactly the same feeling as taking care of a kitten or puppy. With her situation, one of her friends, Sohee, had suggested maybe volunteering to help out with animals looking to be adopted. At the time, she thought it sounded like a good idea, but she waited until after the holiday season before looking into it some more.
With her going to school, she didn’t have a lot of extra time to volunteer, but she decided she’d go a couple times a week and volunteer at the Nabiya Cat Shelter and help them exercise the cats and feed them. She knew it wasn’t much, but to the shelter, any little bit would help. This particular time she was at the shelter, playing with one of the cats, Beongae. A tiny grey kitten, that was named from how it zipped around like a bolt of lightning. The poor little kitten had been abandoned by it’s mother and they had to nurse it back to health and get it used to being around people more.
As she was playing with him, the supervisor came over and gave her a pat on the shoulder. Seulgi turned her attention back to her as Beongae played with the toy mouse on a string that she had to play with. “Seulgi...could you get one of the carriers? Beongae here just found a new home.” she said with an excited tone. Seulgi knew this was bound to happen eventually, but she had grown attached to the little kitten. It was bittersweet, sad that she wouldn’t see him around anymore and good news as this is what they wanted for all the kitties. She handed the toy over to her supervisor and scooped up the kitten, holding it close to her as she went to go get a carrier.
“I’m gonna miss you, but you’ll be someone else’s happiness now. I hope you have a happy and fun life with your new family.”
