hot take maybe but interactions between Ben and Kenji became much much more interesting once Ben got junglefied (aka post s1 fall from the monorail).
It’s like their friendship is more pronounced too! And, and! While earlier Kenji (others too but it really showed with Kenji) didn’t really take Ben seriously, after the fall he gained a new respect for him while also still being annoyed with him very often. It gave these two new dynamic and I heavily prefer it over whatever was going on in s1. It’s just more entertaining to watch and shows their complexity as characters.
If Ben’s mother works for Simon Masrani and Kenji’s dad knows him very well then it would make a perfect sense if Ben and Kenji were childhood friends - just two kids playing with the crayons while their parents discussed Adult and Business stuff...
or even better. childhood enemies, which would explain the awkward atmosphere lingering between them at the beginning of the show-
