Bendigo Fletcher - Consenual Wisdom @bendigofletcher #bendigofletcher @soulsteprecords #soulsteprecords This is not the first (and almost certainly wont be the last) time I'm going to tell you about a band named Bendigo Fletcher. If you've heard me talk about them and still haven't give them a listen, to quote that viral video from a few years ago, "ya dun goofed". I live far away from where Bendigo Fletcher calls home and didn't hear about them until I really started to pay close attention to the Soul Step catalog as a result. I've been out of the loop, however, and that's evidenced by how quickly the beautiful variant I've got on my turntable here sold out and the fact that Soul Step themselves note in the press kit that this is one of the most demanded albums they've ever released. A few weeks later, they're down to one remaining colorway, and frankly I can see why. Like my note about the new Automagik album (Bendigo Fletcher's labelmates!), this band keeps growing and evolving in ways that are both authentic to their style and flavor but also indicative of how incredible a band can sound as they grow and evolve together. Years of shows, practice, and life adjacent to your experience in band come together to build something greater than the sum of its parts and when you take a set of talented folks like this particular band and see them hone their craft with each new album, you can feel that growth in really beautiful ways. Stylistically, it's a touch Americana, it's a little folky, it's definitely "indie" in the adjective way, and it's delicate without being precious, just like Fleet Foxes at their very pastoral best. Of everything I've reviewed by this band, this one took me back to a very real place in my past where I grew up in rural Missouri and could practically smell the distant brush fires in the cool autumn air. It's gorgeous music, but it's also the type that can make you feel something while it makes you hear something, too. Fantastic work, guys, and thanks for making sure I had a chance to hear it. http://www.soulsteprecords.com/ssr063 https://www.instagram.com/p/CAxt8HZlpcy/?igshid=1t1rs9ceeo2sw
