“I hope you liked my playing Grandma.”
“It was great baby.”
“Benjamin! Good you’re ready.”
“Yeah Dad. Can I practice the song they want me to play a little more before we go?”
“Sure, I still gotta go to Norah's and get Bethany. Can you make sure whether or not you can help Emily get your sister and Ellie ready to go?”
“Yeah sure Dad.”
“Thanks Ben.”
“Hi Pop.”
“Hey Baker. how are you buddy?”
“I gud.”
Mel Avery didn't ever really have a solid biological family. He and his identical twin brother, Jonathan, are the results of a teen pregnancy. After the boys were born, Mel's biological mother, Mary, moved far away to raise Jonathan on her own. And Mel's biological father, Jay or John Avery, Jr. took a step back so Mel could be raised by John Avery, Sr. Mel grew up thinking John Sr. was his father and Jay was his oldest brother. Mrs. Avery had passed away so Mel grew up believing his mother passed away in childbirth. Mel felt out of place throughout his childhood; he has his biological mother's dark hair and eyes. Mel always felt like something was missing. He didn't know he had a twin. When the truth came out when Mel was 19, he distanced himself from The Avery's lives. The Swords welcomed Mel with open arms and claimed him a member of their family. This is a bad example because Baker and Ben actually are both Mel's biological grandsons, but I like to think that Monty and Mel share all their grandchildren even the ones that Mel isn't biologically related to. They all call him Pop or Papa. Mel cherishes his adoptive family.
