advent calender day nineteen - for bellamyblakely -Â bellamy/clarke + hogwarts au
Thereâs a quiet courtyard just off the edge of the Quidditch pitch that Clarke always likes to go to when she needs some place calm and relaxing to study or ignore her housemates for a while, and nobody else is ever there, which makes it doubly as nice to visit. Itâs not much, just a few trees and flower bushes and a stone bench beneath an oak tree where she sits and works on essays or reads her books, a nice change of pace from the confines of the common room or even the library.
Today is just another day before finals where sheâs out in her courtyard brushing up on her Transfiguration theory when someone, for the first time in the three years since sheâd discovered this place, enters her sanctuary.
âHey, Princess,â says Bellamy Blake, looking more amused than surprised to see her there. âYouâre quite the sight for sore eyes.â
Clarke jumps a little at his voice and stares up at him, standing on the semi-hidden pathway into the courtyard with a grin on his face as he saunters closer to her. âWhat are you doing here?â She tries not to make it sound accusatory, but she probably fails. Bellamy doesnât seem to notice, though.
âWandering around our magnificent school,â he says, winking at her. âActually, I just got out of Quidditch practice and I wasnât up for going back inside to study more. Whatâs your excuse?â
Clarke raises an eyebrow. âIâm out here to study,â she tells him primly, and he laughs, the sound deep and husky in his throat in a way that sends butterflies racing through her ribs.
âOf course you are,â he agrees amiably, finding a maple tree to lean against as he looks at her, not bothering to ask if she would let him sit on the bench (she wouldnât). âDidnât think you needed to study for Transfiguration, Miss I-Have-All-Os.â
âShut up, Blake,â she says without any real heat in the statement, and pointedly returns to looking at her book, though she remains hyper-aware of his every moment. The problem with Bellamy Blake is, heâs impossible to ignore when he wants to be. And itâs not like they havenât been dancing around each other for the past few years, both of them top of their class, academic rivals, and, oh, yeah â he slept with her best friend.
Not that she cares.
Not that Raven cares, so of course she doesnât care.
Of course.
âYou wound me, Princess,â he says earnestly, wide-eyed when she shoots him a glance over the top of her book, âI only sought your much-beloved company, you know.â
A smile twitches at the corner of her lips. Damn it, he was a dick but after six years, it was hard not to have grown to like him, at least a little. Or a lot. But mostly a little. âNobody calls me Princess anymore,â she tosses out instead.
Bellamy smirks. âExcept for Collins,â he points out, and Clarke glowers at him. âWell,â he amends, âat least until you broke his poor heart.â
âShut up, Blake,â she repeats, more vehemently this time, and definitely does not track the way his hand reaches up to loosen the knot of his tie. Blue and bronze, though she sometimes rather thinks he ought to be green and silver like her. Not that she wants him in her House, but she wonders, often, about hatstalls and missortings and whether she should have been in Gryffindor and, well, anyway, the point is â âThat was last yearâs drama, let it go.â
âAll right, Princess,â he says, because she knows he takes joy in watching her fume, âI guess Iâll leave you to your studying. Nice chat.â
He opens the second button on his shirt and turns to leave. Clarke fights with herself for a minute, then sighs. His company, as vexing as it is, is also vaguely endearing. Not because of his apparent goal to be as shirtless as possible at all times, either.
âWait,â she says, and watches his back as he stops in his tracks. âI could â I could use some help. Studying, I mean. If youâre interested.â
Maybe she should have been in Gryffindor, because this is the stupidest thing sheâs done all year, and she let Raven talk her into skinny-dipping in the lake last winter.
Bellamy turns, a half-grin on his face. âThought youâd never ask.â
âStop enjoying this,â she says, and he laughs and sits down next to her, and okay, so, eventually, yeah, theyâre going to have to stop playing this stupid game of best friends and sisters and their rivalry from first year and fifth year and Quidditch, but maybe not just yet. Bellamy brushes his fingers against hers, almost accidentally, and maybe â maybe not just yet.

Ser Brynden had made her give up her clothes for a plain dress from one of the kitchen maids, they didnât fit her quite right and the front of the dress had too much space left to fill. Oh well, she thought, at least the color matches how I feel. Ser Brynden dinât try to make small talk and she was thankful for that, but it made her quite aware of his distaste for her.
It wasnât like he openly hated her, but she was very sure that if she died while in this trip, the only form of guilt would be because she was the wife of his king, not because he had any feelings towards her besides duty. The Blackfish was doing this because he thought that if he wished very hard she could be suddenly pregnant with Robbâs child.Â
Robbâs child. How many times she had imagined babies with Robbâs hair and Raynaldâs eyes? Her brotherâs were a pretty shade of blue, like the sea near their castle, but herâs were simply brown and muddy (how did Robb ever fell in love with her?). Their babies would had grow up in Winterfell, filling the old halls with laughter and life, maybe making their father forget about his little brothers for a moment.
The first one would had been groom to be King of Winter, and the others she would had them all to herself. She would take them to the nearest beach and taught them to swim just like she did with Elenya. Were there beaches near Winterfell? Lakes? Rivers? Robb never told her much about it, now that she was thinking. The Westerlingâs Maester was a dear old thing, nearly blind, who had gave her several healing books to help him when he couldnât, in spite of that, geography was never her thing.
She touched her stomach conscious of Ser Bryndenâs stare. Would he dispatch her in some whorehouse when she didnât give birth to a heir? My mother made quite sure of that.Â
When Jeyne was little, her mother had told her of the moon goddess, her mother didnât talk a lot about her homeland so Jeyne made herself pay extra attention to what she was saying. Unfortunately, Lady Sybell had been interrupted by her baby sister and story time was over. What she did told her was that it granted wishes.Â
I wish⊠I wish Robb was alive. A tear fell and then another one, but she didnât care. It was too sad to think about it and more when she tried not to do it on purpose. Why she didnât wish for Elenya to be free of her mother? or for the Lannisters to win? Something that made sense, a safe journey to wherever the Blackfish was taking her, her own well being. Nothing.
She had kissed Robb three times before he left her. One to say goodbye, one to remember her by and one to keep. One, two and three, the same number of arrows the Freys shot at him in that awful wedding, or so her mother had told her afterwards. One kiss for every arrow.
Ser Brynden tugged her arm to keep her moving. The river shore was at their feet, silent and calm, almost like the enemy wasnât at the other side of the river. She hoped he wouldnât make her swim like when they escaped Riverrun, the water was cold, she figured, and she didnât fancy drowning in one of the Forks (the red? The blue?) because she couldnât see in the dark. She sighted.
