‘Bella—’ Rayner’s voice began before being cut off by a sudden thrust of her weapon in his direction.

‘Bella.’ He spoke again, more softly this time—but it went almost unheard as she started to bash the back of her head into the wall behind her in frustration.

Rayner was beside her in a few seconds, and tried to gently touch her arm as he spoke her name again. His utterance was met with a fist in his face. In her recoil, Bella turned away from him and started whimpering.

‘Bella, it’s okay.’ He finally managed to speak.

‘No, it’s not. It’ll never be okay again.’ Tears started to descend from the eye that could still work a little bit. ‘I’m never going to see again; I’ll never be able to aim a gun or do chemistry—I can’t take care of myself, let alone others.’

‘Really? Because I think you broke my nose when you chucked that gun at my face, and the punch finished the job.’

‘I got lucky.’ Bella muttered.

Rayner took her hand and gently moved it to his bloodied nose. She felt it for a moment, before impulse claimed her and she leaned in to place a gentle kiss on his lips.

‘Bella,’ Rayner pulled away from her. ‘I’m almost twice your age.’

In a moment of hysterical laughter, Bella fell sideways onto the floor. ‘I’ve completely lost my mind.’

‘No, you haven’t. You’ve been through a trauma, and you’re working through it.’

Shaking under the pressure of focusing all of her weight into a single crutch, she looked her directly into her eyes. ‘Briennan Nord is toxic. She is a master of manipulation. This isn’t good for you, Bella.’

‘Please.’

‘She can’t tell you the truth. Even if she does, you can never know. Even if she wants to, manipulation has become the very essence of who she is, and speaking to her will only harm you. Please, Bella, let’s leave this place.’

‘She’ll only tell the truth to me.’ Bella almost whimpered.

‘I’ll talk to her. Do you trust me?’  Chiara asked.

‘Yeah.’ Bella breathed.

‘Then let’s go.’ Chiara gently attempted to turn around with her one crutch, but ended up in in the arms of Rayner Bartram.

Chiara let go of Bella’s hand, and Rayner helped her steady herself again.

‘You need me to get a chair?’ he asked.

Yes. She thought.

Was it a gradual transition, as the war progressed and she became more and more willing to use mass destruction as a form of ending it? Was it when she withdrew her people from the war and locked down the base, taking away supplies from millions and billions who could have used it? Was it when she finally had her confrontation with Nord on her own terms, at a complete advantage over her? Was it when she refused to choose one world over the other, and doomed both?

All that I really know is that Chiara has never, ever, considered herself a villain. And neither has Briennan Nord.

Is there any chance for them to have some kind of redemption arc in your story?

The rest of these questions are kind of useless for her. Chiara gets an opposite redemption arc, like one where she descends into not-pure cinnamon bun-ness. Briennan Nord does get a redemption arc, and even then she still disgusts me to my very core.

Do they have/use magic or have and kind of special abilities?

No. She does get riftbound, and uses that to repair the rift, but other than that she is just a regular person with no special powers. Just like Briennan Nord.
