Early on in the lambing season, while checking on everyone in the morning, I found a deceased newborn ewe. No one was paying her any attention, and while I had a couple of moms with new lambs at their sides, they weren't behaving like a mom who had lost one of their twins. So I had assumed that the ewe who dropped and rejected my bottle lamb, Pookah, last year, was probably the little girl's mama, and either the little girl had been stillborn, or mama had rejected another baby and I hadn't found her in time. That mama just never seemed to have gotten big at *all*, and I was unfiarly biased against her when it comes to lambing.
Well...
I was wrong.
Honey brought this one up to meet me today, and she is being very attentive, and the little one is eating well already.
So, one of the new mamas that day *must* have dropped a twin and either it was stillborn and she never bonded with it, or she rejected it.
This makes fifteen lambs out of 14 moms this year! And Pookah was not bred - hell, she still isn't totally convinced that she is a sheep, rather than a dog, so I don't think she's ever going to *allow* herself to be bred!
It's a good day.
