-wearing brand new designer duds

-using their babies/children to beg (including flinging a baby around in a stunt)

-printing out actual photos is expensive so where the hell did you get the money to print those to sell?

-really? really? standing around blindfolded and arms out for a donate for hugs stunt? suuuuurrreee, I don’t see AAAANNNYYYYY problems that can occur from this

-toting around thousand dollar backpacking bags while begging for money from people who earn less in a day than these people can shit out in their countries of origin....sure, why not! money is money right?

My fellow Asians who have to deal with these grimy lily-white hipsters with their appropriated clothes/hair, terrible guitar playing, hat full o’ crisp twenties, stained coffee cups, shameless handwritten signs, and smug little smirks while you’re walking to/from work each day. 

It takes a particularly abhorrent styling of entitled prick to fly into our airports with the intention of just ASKING people for money when they run out instead of researching and budgeting their trip carefully.

They want to soak up some ~culture~ and have an ~experience~ without giving two shits about their exotic little playgrounds because if they actually cared about our countries, they would put more effort into learning about who we are, respecting our history as a colonised city, knowing that here in Hong Kong thousands of domestic helpers are basically employed as cleaners/cooks/nannies rolled into one all day 6 days at least per week, our homeless live in cages, and our elderly poor still have to rifle through trash with twisted spines for pieces of cardboard that they push along in carts up the steep hills of Hong Kong island.

If you begpackers actually cared about us and wanted to know the real ~local~ experience, you would at least eventually notice this. It’s not hidden. These are Hong Kong stories just as much as the barhopping, the dim sum, and the waterfall jumping in the outlying islands. These are HK stories, ones that don’t take place on a beach with an open can of beer.

Go home, wash the dreads out of your blond hair, and take some music lessons because your busking is godawful anyway.

'Begpacking' is a term you might be more than familiar with in Southeast Asia. It's a portmanteau of the words 'begging' and 'backpacking', and the people who engage in this form of travel usually consist of Caucasian westerners who flock to Southeast Asia with a minimal budget (almost always intentionally), entrusting their travel funds to be paid for by kind-hearted (perhaps a little naïve), lower-earning locals.

How do they do this? It's simple: Beg on the streets, maybe offer 'free hugs' and ask for 'donations' because they're free spirits who want to 'see the world' and 'find' themselves. In essence, they're basically going on vacation for free, in developing countries that were once (most probably) colonized or exploited by their own.

Begpackers are parasites. Look at this entitled twat. If I were to support anyone’s travels, that person would be me, not some privileged jerk who had enough money to board an international flight in the first place.
