The artwork featured in this flyer is called "Bogok Anggol" from the "Lumad series" by Voltaire Guray - an artist, youth activist and political prisoner arrested in January 2012. He is currently detained in SICA, Taguig City, Philippines. [UPDATE from Jeanelle Nicolas Ablola 7/26: he was released earlier this year and was present at SONA.] Voltaire’s art speaks of the dark and surreal conditions with which political prisoners, such as himself, are subjected to on a daily basis. Voltaire continues his activism through these canvasses surreptitiously brought outside by friends and supporters. Martial Law has been extended until the end of 2017. Militarization threatens our people and our land. We #StandWithMarawi to demand #LiftMartialLaw and to resume the Peace Talks. Come through to Sa Timyas ng Paglaya - Artwork by Filipino Political Prisoners on Thursday, 6pm in Oakland to learn more about this critical time of resistance and support victims of Martial Law in Mindanao. RSVP gabrielasf.eventbrite.com or get your tickets at the door. Bring a friend or meet new ones - kasamas and allies welcome. #NoToMartialLaw #PeaceTalksItuloy #FreeAllPoliticalPrisoners #Oakland #SanFrancisco #begabrielasf (at San Francisco, California)
