#beetroot bag

Have you ever seen a lucet? A lucet is an ancient tool used for making box cordage and here I’m using my historical replica bone lucet to make up the shoulder strap cord for the crochet beetroot bag. Since the cord is hollow, I’m planning to thread a thin cotton cord through it to give the strap some rigidity and prevent stretching when the bag is weighted.

Here I’m making up the leaves for the beetroot bag. The veining on the leaves was done via some basic embroidery stitches. I also added some yarn strands of different lengths to the ‘root’ of the bag and untwisted the ends to get that ground vegetable vibe going. All the components have been blocked using different techniques - the leaves I wet blocked because they were curling significantly, but I steam blocked the bag using my hand steamer.

WIP of a crochet beetroot bag. I’m using some purple handspun I made a while ago which is the perfect colour for this project, and I spun some green yarn for the leaves to the same weight as the purple yarn too. The pattern is by Brooke’s Imaginings.
