Nate stopped what he was doing upon hearing the words, looking over at Cassie with a somewhat incredulous expression.  ❝I’m sorry, you’re what?❞ he asked, wanting to make sure that he heard her clearly. If she had said what she thought that she had, it would ruin everything.

      if   rage   hadn’t   eradicated  the   ability   to   produce   tears   the   waterworks   would   making   hot   saline   drawl   down   the   curvature   of   her   cheek   and   stain   obsidian   residue   from   thickly   lacquered   lashes.      but   all   that can be seen is red.   in   a   complete   haze   where   there   was   no   other   feeling   than   the   rage   caught   like   a   bull   in   the   middle   of   her   chest.   and      the   crescents   engraved   to   her   palms   grow   deeper,   to   the   point   where   she   doesn’t   even   notice   that   the   skin   is   breaking.      ❝   you   fucking   knew   and   did   it   anyways.  FUCK.   you.   cassie.     ❞

     as much as she wanted to say no, maddy looked too peeved, kat too disturbed for her to not at least have a bit of doubt. “cass’. . . just tell me. did you do it?”

Nate looked at Cassie as she spoke, telling him that she’d always have him. It was a bit more affectionate than he was used to, but that was Cassie — she was intense.  ❝Good to know,❞ he spoke, giving her a small smile. He wasn’t going to say it back. He couldn’t promise her that, because the truth was, it probably wouldn’t happen. 

nate’s brow furrowed at the question before he changed his expression, resuming a more serious face.  ❝because you always fucking liked it before. or did you forget saying that you liked being my secret?❞
