Pre-Study Abroad Ramblings
So from my last post that I made a week or so ago, I mentioned that I will be studying abroad in Taiwan this summer! The program actually starts in July, but I will also be doing an additional research internship with the Food Science department at National Taiwan University, which starts at the beginning of June! So far, Iām set to be working with one of the food microbiology professors ā I havenāt heard back from him yet about the specific topic Iāll be working on (I havenāt even decided on it yet!), but I definitely want it to be something within food fermentation or food bioactivity!
Iām studying abroad for a lot of reasons, but to summarize:Ā
I still donāt know what I want to do in the future:Ā Especially since there are so many different disciplines within food science. Iāve seen what product development, food sensory, and food chemistry are like so far, but I donāt know if I want to stick with those fields. The more experience I get, regardless of location or discipline, then itāll give me a better idea of what I want to pursue for graduate school! (One thing I do know is that I donāt want to work with the meat industry or food engineering lol)
I graduate soon (RIP): Iām supposed to graduate in May 2018, and thereās really no other time for me to study abroad at this point, which is something that Iāve always wanted to do since I first got to my university. Studying abroad would be such an amazing experience, and I donāt want that opportunity to go to waste!
Even though Iāve been to Taiwan in the past, Iāve only been in Taipei to visit family and that stuff. This time, I get to explore different cities within the island, and also get a chance to work with amazing faculty at a university that my dad graduated from, which is super cool! (He went to National Taiwan University for electrical engineering).Ā
Iāll be blogging about my time abroad whenever I get a chance (I leave for Taiwan in late May), so if you guys want to see whatās going on and everything, Iāll be posting from the following social media accounts:
Instagram: @thecassieliuĀ [Expect a ton of food pictures lol]
Facebook: *If you want to add me on facebook, send me a message so I know who to send my URL link to!
Wordpress: TBA... Iāll post the blog link on here soon!
But yeah, thatās just about it! I donāt know how often Iāll update my tumblr blog with that stuff, but weāll see! Iām super excited for this opportunity, and itās basically the only thing thatās keeping me going for the rest of this semester lol. Hope youāre all doing well! :)
