@becomesdeath​ --- historical au ! year 1370c.e.

♰ ♰ ♰  sinclair  portier  was  under  -  dressed  as  far  as  he  was  concerned.  but  no  ,  the  king  didn’t  want  his  clunky  armor  making  so  much  noise  through  the  night  ,  so  chainmail  &  a  single  sword  was  all  he’d  been  allowed  to  carry.  if  the  room  &  charge  he’d  been  ordered  to  guard  was  in  a  less  -  defensible  location  ,  he’d  worry  that  they  didn’t  care  much  for  little  liudolf’s  well  -  being. . .  which  time  had  shown  him  wasn’t  the  case  ;  but  it  always  bothered  him  a  bit  to  have  to  dress  down  to  protect  the  most  PRECIOUS  thing  in  the  keep.

the  sentiment  forced  a  snort  through  his  nostrils.  it  wasn’t  that  sinclair  didn’t  agree  with  the  king’s  chosen  description  of  his  slightly  younger  son  ,  but  merde  he  knew  how  bratty  &  demanding  &  SPOILT  the  prince  could  be.  &  yes  ,  it  was  a  fact  that  he’d  come  to  enjoy  the  little  mind  &  word  games  liudolf  liked  to  play  with  him  through  batted  blonde  lashes  ---  it  was  nothing  short  of  a  task  to  force  himself  to  ignore  the  looks  &  the  comments  &  the  ‘ accidental ’  touches  that  had  grown  more  frequent  over  the  last  few  months. . .

the  silence  that  had  settled  through  the  keep  was  broken  &  he  was  pulled  from  his  thoughts  ,  aquamarines  widening  at  what  he  THOUGHT  the  sound  to  be  ---  head  tilted  towards  the  door  at  his  back  ,  trained  ears  picking  up  on  the  sound  of  muffled  movement  from  the  prince’s   room  behind  him.  the  light  &  breathless  little  sound  came  again  ,  just  a  pitch  higher  than  the  first  he’d  heard.  

the  muscle  above  his  jaw  ticked  ,  teeth  chomping  down  on  the  inside  of  his  cheeks  in  an  effort  to  keep  himself  facing  forward.  he  was  here  to  guard  &  keep  watch  ;  not  to  turn  around  &  feast  his  eyes  on  what  was  obviously  happening  behind  him. . .

though  ,  when  the  sound  happens  a  THIRD  time  ,  &  he  was  turning  to  slip  through  the  door  &  closing  it  behind  him  with  a  creak!  before  he  could  stop  himself.  it  was  ,  his  sworn  duty  after  all  ,  to  ensure  that  the  prince  was  okay.  he  crossed  the  expansive  room  with  silent  steps  ,  to  the  far ,  dark  corner  liudolf’s  bed  occupied.

𝚂𝙷𝙴  𝚆𝙰𝙽𝚃𝚂  𝙰  𝚆𝙰𝙻𝚃𝚉  𝙾𝙽  𝙰𝙻𝙻  𝚂𝙾𝚄𝙻'𝚂  𝙽𝙸𝙶𝙷𝚃  .   and  there  are  no  finer  places  for  that  than  at  her  party  ,   the  revelry  of  which  spills  forth  from  the  ballroom  .   pale  ,   cold  figures  breeze  and  glance  around  her  ---   winding  like  snakes  around  their  lovers  and  flashing  horrible  fangs  .

she  sees  no  familiar  face  in  the  crowd  save  his  ,   and  she  walks  with  undisputed  confidence  as  befitting  the  lady  of  the  house  .   what  she  wishes  is  hers  once  she  speaks  it  ,   and  lucy  seeks  out  none  before  zaiden  to  satisfy  her  .

“    𝔦  𝔞𝔪  𝔟𝔢𝔰𝔦𝔡𝔢  𝔪𝔶𝔰𝔢𝔩𝔣  𝔴𝔦𝔱𝔥  𝔥𝔞𝔭𝔭𝔦𝔫𝔢𝔰𝔰  𝔱𝔬  𝔰𝔢𝔢  𝔶𝔬𝔲  ,   𝔪𝔶  𝔡𝔞𝔯𝔩𝔦𝔫𝔤  !!    ”   she  exclaims  ,   the  front  of  stony  seriousness  melting  like  candle  wax  from  her  delicate  face  .   

lucy  can  scarcely  reach  his  shoulder  ,   so  she  settles  for  his  hand  .   her  small  palm  fits  against  zaidens  and  she  is  delighted  beyond  measure  to  find  that  his  gloves  are  nowhere  to  be  seen  .   his  skin  is  cool  to  the  touch  and  so  beautifully  decorated  .

but  she  sidesteps  the  traditional  ,   failing  to  turn  his  hand  so  she  may  kiss  the  back  of  it  as  friends  might  .   she  settles  for  the  quiet  intimacy  of  leaving  a  red  lip - print  in  the  very  centre  of  his  palm  .

and  then  she  leans  in  yet  again  a  moment  later  and  her  lips  find  the  prominent  veins  at  his  wrist  .   another  ,   gentle  kiss  is  left  there  as  tribute  .

𝚂𝙷𝙴  𝙿𝚁𝙰𝚈𝙴𝙳  𝚃𝙾  𝙶𝙾𝙳  𝙸𝙽  𝚃𝙷𝙴  𝙼𝙾𝙾𝙽𝙻𝙸𝙶𝙷𝚃  𝙰𝙽𝙳  𝚃𝙷𝙴𝙽  𝙳𝙸𝙴𝙳  𝙸𝙽  𝚃𝙷𝙴  𝙳𝙰𝚁𝙺𝙽𝙴𝚂𝚂  .   lucy  wonders  how  her  own  hope  hasn’t  shattered  within  the  confines  of  her  ribs  ---   perhaps  if  she  had  not  woken  alone  her  story  might  have  been  similar  to  his  .

as  it  stands  she  sits  in  the  slow  evening  and  motions  for  him  to  sit  with  her  .   the  little  human  she  entertains  is  just  as  easily  cast  aside  in  favour  of  zaiden  .   after  all  ,   he  has  hers  .

“    𝔦𝔱  𝔦𝔰  𝔭𝔩𝔞𝔦𝔫  𝔞𝔰  𝔡𝔞𝔶  𝔱𝔬  𝔰𝔢𝔢  𝔱𝔥𝔞𝔱  𝔶𝔬𝔲  𝔞𝔯𝔢  𝔱𝔦𝔯𝔢𝔡  ,    ”    her  eyes  are  red  with  blood  fresh - drunk  ,   she  reaches  for  him  before  he  arrives  and  her  pale  arm  curves  about  his  waist  .   lucy  wants  him  to  sit  .     “    i  must  not  tell  you  how  it  is  that  i  know  this  .   you  see  ,   a  lady  never  reveals  her  secrets  .    ”

she  smiles  ,   tapping  a  sharp  fingernail  against  his  cheekbone  .

         a   leg   SWINGS   OVER   HIS   HEAD   once   she’s   done,    beginning   to   clean   up   the   mess    as   they   wait   for   the   bleach   to   activate    &    dye   his   black   hair   to   a   bright   white.    ❝   is   there   a   REASON   WHY   you   decided   to   do   this ?    or   you   just   thought   after   670   years   it   was   time   for   a   change ?  ❞    the   demon   teases,    looking   over   her   shoulder   at   the   vampire   still   sitting   on   the   floor   of   their   bathroom   as   she   scrubs   the   bowl   in   the  sink.   the   alarm   on   her   phone   goes   off   JUST   as   she   lays   out   the   things   to   dry  on  the   counter    &    the   petite   blonde   makes   her   way   to   straddle   his   lap,    kissing   his   lips   as   she   goes   to   undo   the   tinfoil   of   one   of   the   sections.    ❝  let’s   see   how   it   looks   shall   we,    HANDSOME ?  ❞

𝙷𝙴𝚁  𝙶𝙾𝚆𝙽  ,   𝙸𝚃  𝚂𝚆𝙸𝙼𝚂  𝙻𝙸𝙺𝙴  𝙼𝙾𝙾𝙽𝙻𝙸𝙶𝙷𝚃  .   she  is  cast  over  a  red  chaise lounge  ,   drying  blood  mingling  with  her  lipstick  .   lucy  is  happy  ,   happy  ,   happy  as  a  corpse  can  be  with  her  cheeks  flushing  unnaturally  .  it’s  a  lie  ,   there’s  a  body  slumped  on  the  ground  beside  her  ,   unfit  to  share  her  joy  .

“    𝔱𝔥𝔢𝔯𝔢  𝔦𝔰  𝔰𝔬  𝔳𝔢𝔯𝔶  𝔩𝔦𝔱𝔱𝔩𝔢  𝔦  𝔡𝔢𝔱𝔢𝔰𝔱  𝔪𝔬𝔯𝔢  𝔱𝔥𝔞𝔫  𝔣𝔢𝔢𝔩𝔦𝔫𝔤  𝔠𝔬𝔩𝔡  ,    ”    she  smiles  ,   sitting  up  slowly  .   her  hair  longs  to  escape  its  pins  ,   curls  fly  around  her  head   .    “    a  sip  is  usually  all  that  i  take  ,  but  i  hit  an  artery  .    ”

she  tuts  ,   glancing  down  at  the  dear - departed  .

“    have  you  fed  recently  ?    ”    she  asks  ,   reaching  almost  impetuously  for  his  hand  to  see  if  he  is  as  death - cold  as  she  expects  .   but  lucy  falls  just  short  ,   failing  to  touch  him  .   like  she  remembers  he  offers  a  faceful  of  claw  when  crossed  .    “    i  heard  the  most  frightful  rumour  ,   that  you  drink  nothing  but  lycan  blood  ,   as  you  kill  so  many  .    ”

lucy  looks  stricken  ,   as  if  the  idea  of  his  only  purpose  upsets  her  .
