Y’know. My dad is a Santa impersonator. A mall Santa even. He keeps the beard all year long anymore, but I saw him at Thanksgiving and the man was legit glowing. He’s so excited for the season and he loves doing the job. He’s been doing it for five years now and finally has repeat clientele. He’s super professional. He pays the lady who makes and tailors his suits really well, making sure to give her plenty of notice. He trims his beard and does silly rituals so he doesn’t get it dirty when he eats. He’s kept up his fluency in American Sign Language and Spanish so he can talk to just about anyone he meets. He takes it all so seriously and I love it. I watch little kids notice him wherever we go. When folks come up to him randomly, he is very serious about it, making sure not to break character. It’s impossible not smile around him from Thanksgiving through the end of the year. He’s honestly winning the game and it’s truly inspiring. I’m looking forward to the hour or so he’ll spend Christmas morning taking videos by the family tree and sending to friends’ kids. It’s friggin’ cute.
This is what I’m talking about.
LET’S CELEBRATE YOUR DAD!!
Your dad taking time out of his own enjoyment of the season to make kids (and probably everyone, really) smile is beyond admirable. And going the extra mile to learn/know Spanish and ASL… and staying in character when he needs to… well, that’s the spirit of Christmas right there. Living in the magic so that others may too.
That’s so special — thank you for sharing!
I hope your dad (and your family) has a wonderful holiday season!!
Who else wants to celebrate someone??
Message me in my ask box (anonymous or not) and I’ll share your kindness so we can all be grateful for that special person you want to lift up ❤️
