One man’s plagiarism is another man’s tribute. Anyway, by the time it ended, I felt like listening to Actual Beatles. Chose this ragtag singles collection masquerading as a coherent album (it’s not coherent) because it has “Rain” (the B-side to “Paperback Writer,” I believe). What is it about Rain that is so enchanting? Anyway, in that one song, my son agreed, lies the Rosetta stone to Oasis’s entiiiiiiiire career. Every mood they ever made, musically, lyrically, attitude-ly, je ne se quois-ly, is contained within “Rain.” Also, I don’t know if I’ve heard “Old Brown Shoe” more than two times before listening to this. And I will never be anything less than electrically charged by that piano sound and piano playing on Lady Madonna, or the bass on Paperback Writer. Nice to revisit Don’t Let Me Down now and then. Okay.
