There is no Dignity in Death
First off i want to start off by saying the Suicide is not victimless, if you think that you are not hurting anyone by committing suicide, you are sorely mistaken. No matter what what your mind or thoughts are telling you there will be someone somewhere hurt by suicide.
Secondly i have a problem with the news coverage over the recent decision by a person in Oregon who ended their life yesterday. (read the damn news if you don't know what i am talking about) killing yourself to save your dignity is not only the most bullshit excuse to do such a thing but it is the most selfish thing you could ever consider. not only are you hurting the people who love you, but you are contributing nothing to the fight against the various illnesses which is an every day battle that needs attention.
Thirdly the news is portraying this suicide in such a positive light, does no one remember the hurt that we just went through with a celebrity whose name shall forever be etched in my generation's memory as the happiest and most talented human being to entertain us. Death is not happy news in any context. someone who was here a minute ago is no longer here, and can no longer speak and change the world.
Fourthly, i feel as though this person just used it as a way to skip the hard part of life, every person, no matter who we are goes through hard parts of life, we have trials that other people look at and wonder how we handle them. It is how we handle them that makes us who we are and how we use these tough times to influence and change the world, or at least the minds of those around us to begin that change, which makes us humans. this suicide is simply the act of giving up and should not be heralded as death with dignity, but cowardess under the duress of a future of hard times. hard times that the people around you would rather have and share with you, rather than see you slip away never to return, right in front of their eyes.
i have very few words for this type of selfishness, this is not a battle lost as most suicides are, this was a battle forfeited before it was begun. and in that way it is more tragic that those who have battle for years, or decades before finally succumbing to the evil that haunts them.
do not hearald this as a victory for dignity, but instead as a victory for selfishness and and unfortunate waste of humanity.
hug your loved ones, and if you have no one to hug, i give you one. if you feel that no one loves you, you are wrong I love you, if you feel that no one will miss you are wrong, i will miss you. do not give up the fight, you were put here to fight and you are not alone.
Share the love, be the love, give the love.
