Bloody Roar Series

Bloody Roar is a fighting game series created by Hudson Soft and developed with Eighting, featuring Zoanthropes—humans who can transform into powerful half-animal forms during combat. Originally released in 1997 as Beastorizer, the game was renamed Bloody Roar for its 1998 PlayStation port, which became the series' official title. The franchise was published by multiple companies, including Activision and Konami, with the latter acquiring full rights after absorbing Hudson Soft in 2012.

The Bloody Roar series, originally released as Beastorizer in North American arcades, debuted in 1997 for Arcade and PlayStation, later re-releasing on PlayStation Network. Bloody Roar 2 followed in 1998, expanding its roster and gameplay, launching on Arcade and PlayStation, with a 2010 PSN re-release. Bloody Roar 3 arrived in 2000 for Arcades and in 2001 for PlayStation 2, refining the series’ combat. Bloody Roar: Primal Fury (2002) was released on GameCube, with an enhanced Xbox version titled Bloody Roar Extreme. The final instalment, Bloody Roar 4, launched in 2003 for PlayStation 2, marking the end of the franchise.

The Bloody Roar series was adapted into a manga by Maruyama Tomowo, published in Monthly Shōnen Jump in 2001. While inspired by the games, the manga featured an original story and characters, though some bore similarities to the game’s cast. It followed Fang, a lone wolf Zoanthrope, and Mashiro, a rabbit girl Zoanthrope, as they battled rogue Zoanthropes and sought to prevent the release of an evil creature through a set of talismans. This is officially the Beast Drive blog's first attempt at stirring up some community creativity in the Bloody Roar zone on tumblr. Because the fanspace here is pretty quiet I thought starting off with monthlies to avoid clogging up the tags would be a good idea.

You can submit entries by reblogging this post, making a submission through this blog, or using the respective @beastdrive / #beastdrive notifications and clearly marking the prompt.

There's no real restrictions or heavy guidelines on how you're supposed to engage with these prompts but, loosely:

Meta Analysis prompts are intended for "out of character" thinking and discussions about the lore or world of Bloody Roar.

Scene Setting prompts are meant to help inspire more character focused analysis, headcanons, visual art and other works.

Dynamic Drabble prompts are supposed to get the gears turning on some sort of fanfiction one-shot based on the provided theme.

The point of these prompts is simply to get more engagement within the Bloody Roar fanspace. You do not need to submit polished work here, just share what you thought about or wanted to make!

Aquarium Stages: Pick an aquarium arena from one of the games and think about what environmental storytelling you can pick up from the design and background details.

Scene Setting

Health & Fitness: What sports, recreation, or healthcare activities do you imagine the characters doing in their spare time? Do they follow along with any professional sports? Think about how their fighting styles compliment each character's personalities and showcase how they move says so much about their attitude or approach to life.

Dynamic Drabble

Word Count Range: 500 - 1000
