I think the thing that has me in a chokehold about Caleb Shomo coming out is that it feels like a massive win. Beartooth was a band that I actively avoided because I felt their look and sound were pretty bland, and now that Caleb has accepted his sexuality the look has become full femboy with light emo. He literally looks like Adam Lambert. He was some of the roughest trade in the game and now he's wearing the bad bitch drippy eyeliner that Kesha and Andy Beirsack have both rocked except with rhinestones this time??? And Free is literally so perfect I can't stop listening to it and I need it to enter the gay canon. I want Free by Beartooth up on the shelf next to fucking Born This Way and I'm Still Standing. Like so often I have watched guys in emo bands hit 30 cut their hair off, grow a beard and pretend they don't know what eyeliner is anymore. With Caleb I have literally received the opposite. It's never too late to come out, it's never too late to start dressing for yourself, 20 year olds do not have a monopoly on gender non conformity. We win. That's it we've won and every beautiful feminine gay man on this earth expressing himself openly is a win for the world.
And on top of that it's a win for Beartooth, they're blossoming. They're getting out of the rut of writing overproduced metalcore about how sad they are and writing songs about self love and triumph. They're free.

day 2: beartooth!!
i want to start off with saying caleb shomo is someone who i genuinely believe deserves nothing but happiness and peace. The world has been so unkind to him despite him doing absolutely nothing but attempting to survive. The amount of homophobia he’s received from lowlife losers in the last couple of weeks has been so disturbing to see. Caleb, you are such an inspiration to so many people, including me. I hope you have the most wonderful pride month as an out gay man, aswell as living the rest of your life with peace 🥹🫰🏻
ANYWAYS!!! i was an attack attack fan for a bit but it took me a while to listen to beartooth simply because i didn’t know beartooth WAS caleb😭 same with bilmuri being johnny!!
Beartooth’s music genuinely sounds like pure raw emotion from caleb’s perspective, i think that’s what drew me to their first album in particular, especially the closing track, sick & disgusting, which is my designated cry song for any occasion tbh😭😭
My main recommendations for any one wanting to check them out are: sick & disgusting (ofc), clever, and might love myself!!
