I remember how excited I was when I heard that 12K was going to be translated into English, with Alexander O. Smith as the main translator. (Seriously, dat FF12…) And then… yeah.

i used to leave comments to the editor in my adaptations, which usually were me making fun of the dumb characters in the series i did (lights out). apparently one volume had a handful of books accidentally printed with my comments in them, lol oops

i have no idea how the novels worked, but i know a few typos i KNOW i didn't make wound up in the books I did, despite there being two editing rounds after I touched the script (and I got raw translations and original manga to look at to work from)
i definitely don't blame the translators for everything regarding the quality of the 12k books -- like, the misprints and shit print quality are obviously beyond their control. the whole official 12k translation was just a disaster from start to finish. there's an online fan translator (eugene woodbury) who's basically done the entire series at this point, completely free of charge, so the point's sort of moot, but...
