WiP Wednesday Untitled #4
This is one that I originally started writing last November, and then life went off the rails. I keep poking at it, though. Maybe I'll get it out in time for the holidays this year. So, for now, have a little Christmas Winter Star in July:
His nervousness had almost fully dissipated when Elliott suddenly exclaimed, “By Jove, I’ve got it!” Dylan jerked, spilling tea over the side of the mug. Muttering a curse under his breath, he snatched up a nearby napkin and daubed at the steaming liquid. Elliott didn’t even notice, utterly caught up in his excitement. “Got what?” “The solution to your woes!” Elliott beamed. “Clearly, this present is of great importance to you, yes?” “…Yes,” Dylan reluctantly agreed, blowing gently over the red mark on his hand. While he could care less what Sig Bear thought of him, he refused to give a sub-par gift during the Feast of the Winter Star. “Why?” “Well then, considering our lack of information as to what books of poetry your— your ‘friend’ already has in his possession, the only viable course of action is to present him with poetry he could not possibly have obtained prior to your gifting it to him.” Blinking a couple of times as he parsed Elliott’s convoluted sentence, Dylan finally asked, “And… how would I do that?” “By writing your own, of course!” he declared, looking quite pleased with himself. Dylan, however, felt anything but. “What.”
