ILIO D IPAOLO. This strapping 245 pounder, 6 foot 2 inch, Italian Champion, Ilio Di Paolo, is a definite threat to the heavyweight crown. Di Paolo has catapulted himself into the top echelon of wrestling by diligent and constant work. According to experts this young man is the finest prospect to come out of Italy in the past generation. Born in Abruzzi, Italy (November 8, 1930) Ilio Di Paolo went to Rome for most of his schooling, and by the time he was 18 had captured the amateur heavyweight title of Central Italy. He wrestled four years as an amateur but by the end of his first year of college he was proficient enough in the mat sport to enter the professional ranks. His wrestling career took him to Paris, London, Venezuela and to Cuba where a wrestling scout witnessed his perfected technique and his natural ability and was so impressed that he brought him to Canada and the United States.
Before coming to this continent, Di Paolo engaged in a mixed match in Haiti against Amelio Agramonte, a reigning heavyweight boxer of the time. The match was scheduled for five 3-minute rounds, the fighter boxing in an endeavor to gain a knockout, and the wrestler trying to pin his opponent by employing only orthodox wrestling holds.
During the second round, Agramonte almost tore Di Paolo's head off with a solid right to the jaw, and Ilio was saved by the bell. As Agramonte came at Di Paolo at the start of the third round, Ilio caught him with a headlock, quickly shifted to a chinlock and pulling up on the hold with all his might, he rolled backward, bringing the surprised boxer over with him. Thus Di Paolo was able to pin his foe flat for the count and was declared victor and the outcome of the heated controversy was unquestionable in the minds of 21,000 fans in attendance.
"When I get the chance to meet the Champion for the World's Title, you can believe me when I say ill be ready for the supreme test," says Ilio Di Paolo. It is the opinion of many of his fan club members that he is equipped to wear the champion's crown some day soon.

The Torreses are depicted in another photo below that, captioned: Alberto uses heavy dumbells to work his upper body and break into a sweat.

""Some might consider Bearcat's style eccentric," Martinez said. "But when he unleashes his ko-ko butts and rattles off the flying tackles, he's a convincing worker."
"Wrestlers can be found in three places, the ring, on the road or a hospital cot. In the case of Bearcat, you can add one more - the air," Martinez claimed.
The Bearcat owns his plane and is a licensed pilot, which enables him to broaden his wrestling schedule and traveling time. A typical week's schedule might find him in Kansas City, Rochester, Buffalo, and off to San Francisco for a Saturday night bout at the Cow Palace.
Drew Record Gate

Brian Damage
This is the 452nd installment of the ‘Wrestling with Sin‘ series. A group of stories that delves into the darker, underbelly of pro wrestling. Many of the stories involve such subjects as sex, drugs, greed and in some cases even murder! As with every single story in the Sin series, I do not condone or condemn the alleged participants. We simply retell their stories by researching…
