yes!!!! it's like i personally don't like first or second person in writing, but i keep it to myself and i'm not going to put people who use it down due to my own personal preference?? like god damn chill and stop discouraging fellow writers ur not better than ppl who use 1st or 2nd so shut up my goodness

Exactly! 

Like it’s totally fine to like a certain writing style better and to have preferences, but I feel like as a “writer” especially if you’re kind of popular you should really be concious about the way you word your opinions. 

I literally read someone say they think “1st & 3rd person POV is disgusting and lazy.” and this was a hugely popular writing blog.

People need to take a step back and evaluate how their comments come across to their readers. And I don’t mean that they shouldn’t have preferences or voice their opinions, but I wish people would do it in a manner that doesn’t discourage others from creating their own content.

I think lately it’s become even harder for new writers to get their writing out there because there is so much pressure to not to do anything wrong and stick to the way other’s are writing. So many “write like this an no other way” posts are going around and though they are probably meant to be helpful they are often really intimidating and restricting. 

Also I feel like a lot of people compare pieces of writing that can’t really be compared. 

Obviously a lot of imagines have a main character who is very vague because they want everyone to relate to this character. Adding more details will eventually end up shutting certain people out. 

Multichaptered imagines or fanfics need a more detailed character because they tell a longer story usually with a more complex plot. You can’t really compare those two things.

Also it’s really a matter of taste. I tried writing in 2nd person and eventually decided it wasn’t for me. As for 1st and 3rd, that’s usually something I decide while I’m writing something. I just see how it feels and which way makes my writing “flow” better. You can create very multidiensional characters in 1st person though and anyone who says that isn’t the case is just plain out wrong.

Basically what I’m saying is, I wish people were less nasty about the way they voice their opinions and more encouraging to new writers.

It took me years to work up the courage to post my writing online and I am so here for all the new writer who are afraid to publish their writing.

I’m so here for the people who aren’t 100% sure about their grammar and spelling.

I’m so here for the people who only write occasionally in between school and work and family time.

I’m so here for the non english speaking writers.

I’m so here for the young writers.

I just wish we could be more welcoming and uplifting and helpful instead of discouraging and salty all the time.

(I mean in the end we’re all just a bunch of people writing silly stories about famous people that usually don’t even know we exist ;P) 

Be nice to each other, help others out, don’t be a dick.
