Beachn' brews, forget about june.
Unique & deliberately casual - that's what coffee potlucks feels like.
The last Coffee Potluck was an absolute success. Record breaking number coffees came out to be tasted… Oh wait, sorry I can’t help but personify them. For the first time ever, we had more coffees than people, so that was an good problem to have. It’s been great to see the community grow and new faces testing the waters of what coffee has to offer.
Highlights of the day were the Mackenzie Room crew & their awesome home where they host amazing dinners and the brilliant 44th Element film who came out to do some video! I can’t wait to share that with you 😃
People who haven’t been to a coffee potluck often ask how we figure out the logistics of the coffee tasting - to be honest, it’s an exercise of flexibility. This time we numbered coffees as they arrived and explored a theme. Is it well researched?-not always, but when's the last time you did something that scared you?- right, so.
Because we were at one of my favourite restaurants in town, Mackenzie room, we wanted to start a discussion about coffee at food outlets and restaurants in Vancouver. If you work in the restaurant industry or in wholesale to coffee, what are some challenges to serving and preparing consistently impressive coffees for customers?
We had a wave of Portland roasters and coffees from Alberta. After the Alberta Party, I mean, National Aeropress Championships, we brought back loads of roasters including Transcend Coffee, Rosso Roasters, and Phil and Sebastian.
The list of what we tasted is at the bottom of the post!

Next Sunday coffee potluck is 31st of July!
It’s summer and what do Vancouverites do in the summer? We go to the beach.
I’ve noticed that we really like heading to the water in this city and cold brews have been the real buzz. Even if you’re not as keen on coffee everyone, is talking about cold brews. Just the other day a friend asked me how cold brew is made.
If you’re into summer and you like the beach, we’ve asked a few local cold brew makers to offer up their product for us to dabble in. What you will need, bring a cup, and as always your favourite cold brew to share with the group and come hang out on Spanish Banks with us.
Who: friends who like a ‘beach’n cold brew'
What: i just said, c-c-cccold brew. BRING a cold brew and maybe a frisbee.
Where: Spanish Banks, a link to the location will be listed here and on twitter once it’s scouted!
When: SUNDAY, 31 July at 3:00 pm
