I become so frustrated when I talk to non-creative people. Their defeatist attitude, their judgemental lifestyle.
Not creating is an active choice, because no one is genuinely unable to create. The act of creation is that of the divine. You were born to be a god, but you choose not even to take the first steps of your journey to divinity because you fear the judgement of people who don't even matter.
How would you judge a person who mocked a child's first steps, judging and comparing those first wobbly steps to that of a professional athlete? You would laugh and call them an idiot. Because that is what they are, and so are people who mock new artists, writers, singers, and creatives of any kind. Idiots.
Stop giving power to idiots.
Stop living in fear and take those first steps onto an incredible journey. Sometimes, that journey will be difficult, especially those first steps before you have found your footing and what makes your creations uniquely you.
It doesn't have to be perfect because it can't be perfect. There is no such thing as perfect art because art has too many criteria for one piece to fit into all of them. The point of art is to make us feel something.
Also, making a piece you aren't completely happy with doesn't stop you from revisiting the subject again in the future and attacking it with new experience.
I have run out of patience with defeatist people who claim they can't do something. They think artistic talent is something that got handed out, and they were left out. They don't realise that art comes from hard work, passion, and fearlessness. I have found they always apply that sentiment to all aspects of life.
If it isn't handed to them, they can't do it. They are takers and parasites. They will never reciprocate; they don't think the effort is worth it. They live their lives of fear and judgement and apply those values liberally to everything else.
I would take a lousy artist over a non-creative any day. At least we can laugh about it; at least we can take a journey together, make new discoveries, and experience the wonder of learning something new.
Please show me your art (or other creative endeavor). Be a god, a creator. Have passion, share your emotions, be alive.
