My little parakeet, Bonnie, passed away this morning at 4:18 AM in my hands. She had been going through painful complications since she was eggbound in March, she perked up in April and was back to her old self, and then suddenly in May she had started going downhill. I'm only glad I could be there for her to say goodbye and to let her know she was loved so much before she passed on.
Bonnie was picked up from a PetCo three years ago from owners who had her for three years, but decided to dump her there because she wouldn't fit in their car when they were moving. She had no name and Mom made a joke to the song lyrics "I've been through the desert on a horse with no name" where I suddenly decided to name her after my favorite Red Dead Redemption character; Bonnie. She was the sweetest and most sociable little bird, she'd jump all the way to the front of the cage and warble and chirp at anyone who came over to talk to her. She could mimic my cockatiels and would always make this high pitched chirp when I'd call her name and say good morning to her.
Rest in peace my little BonBon, you were so loving and strong and I love you so much.
