38 - “You fainted…straight into my arms. You know, if you wanted my attention you didn’t have to go to such extremes.”

John and Sherlock had been chasing a suspect around the city near two days now.  By the time they had finally caught him, it ending with Sherlock getting shot, just a graze right above his ear, but being a head wound, it looked worse than it was and John quickly checked him over and gave him his scarf to hold against his head, he left Sherlock there looking dazed only because he saw Lestrade’s car headed his way.

John took off towards the prick that had hurt his boyfriend and gained on him in no time and tackled him.  He proceeded to beat the suspect almost senseless and Lestrade had to pull him off.

Lestrade pulled John aside, “look if you can’t keep your cool when someone hurts Sherlock in any way, I’m going to bar you from crime scenes.”  

John shook his head and muttered an apology and excused himself to go see to Sherlock.  It was almost odd because he wasn’t berating and trying to push the paramedics off.  He was sitting there silently while they applied antiseptic and stitched the graze up and John could see that there was an idea forming in his head but he didn’t quite know what it was.

The paramedics went over care instructions until they realised John was indeed a doctor and Lestrade permitted them to go home for the night, Sherlock was in no state to answer any questions.

He leaned on John and half stumbled down the alleyway until they got to the main road and hail a cab.  John watched Sherlock out the corner of his eyes and noticed every once in a bit the detective would lightly smirk.  He was curious what was running through the man’s mind. 

“Are you sure you’re ok?” John inquired.

“M’fine” Sherlock slurred into one word.

John paid the cabbie and helped Sherlock up to the flat and as he shut the door and turned to Sherlock, his eyes rolled back into his head and he fell straight forward into John’s arms having fainted,  Before John could fuss or panic, Sherlock started laughing and instead of getting mad John responded,  “You know, if you wanted my attention you didn’t have to go to such extremes.”

“Ah yes about that,” Sherlock giggled, “I don’t know about you but I’d rather spend the rest of the night in bed with you rather than at NSY filling out paperwork.”
