Day 114: anchored in the Port of Sorrento and visit to Pompeii . Sorrento is a town overlooking the Bay of Naples in Southern Italy. A popular tourist destination, the Sorrentine Peninsula has views of Naples , mount Vesuvius and the Isle of Capri. The Amalfi drive, connecting Sorrento and Amalfi, is a narrow road that threads along the high cliffs above the Tyrrhenian Sea. . On the day we visited the famous ruins of Pompeii, ancient Roman city that was buried under volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79. . We spent the rest of our day in Sorrento, wondering along the narrow streets and tasting the limoncello, a famous produce of the area. I wished we had spent more time in the area. I tried to make the most of my time, unfortunately the last tender to go back to the ship was at 7:30PM.
