I tighten the lug nuts with a cross of iron, a cross of my fingers and one Hail, Holy Queen and again we will go dumbly, royally winding through the night. I am soaked to the skin now and back inside the car, sitting on a beach towel that lines the front seats. We have the old road all to ourselves and she is drifting away to a better world that has been promised her on television and I am trying to stay awake.

Finally developed some rolls shot 77-83. Thirty five years ago. Did about 50 of the rolls I have at raykophoto where i used hc-110 1:10 dilution @68C for 9-10min. Most came out. Scanned a few with a loupe and a phone cam then flipped the neg with pixlr app using a negative filter. Been asked for pics of a guy that might be this guy. David?

Lynchian Proximity (circa 1990)
Living in Los Angeles means having varying degrees of proximity to people in the entertainment industry. I dated a costume supervisor for a couple years and then a sitcom writer for a season before being written out of her script. On any given day, you might see an “also starring” level actor looking through the towels at Bed Bath and Beyond. I recall a steady run of Seinfeld guest stars passing through an AA meeting I regularly attended. Higher profile names you typically only see based on a shared income bracket, oddball connections, or deliberate stalking.
Or maybe you walk through a door in the dark.
I spent a lot of time in clubs and bars in the 80’s and early 90’s. A favorite spot was The Dresden Room. If you’ve seen the movie “Swingers”, you’ve seen the Dresden. In 1990, I was there far too often. And on Saturdays, for a time, so was David Lynch. David Lynch and Isabella Rossellini, actually. Always inhabiting a booth in the room behind the bar. In the same spot for at least a month or better each Saturday. This is when Twin Peaks was on network TV. Magazine-cover famous. Through either courtesy or intimidation, I never saw anyone approach their table. But it was dark after all. Like it is now.
I was a fan early on, seeing Eraserhead several times when it was a midnight movie at a local arthouse theater. When Blue Velvet was released, I opted to see it at a suburban theater rather than in Hollywood. The audience sat in stunned silence as the end credits started to roll. I wasn’t having it. I started to slow clap like Charles Foster Kane until a couple of people nervously joined in. There’s no shortage of applause for a life well-lived this week and that is as much as any of us can hope to hear when the curtain closes.

Liminal #2
Some recent design work I did for my good friend, Noel. He can be found on IG at fortyfive_rpm. If you're in PHX or passing through, take in a DJ set.
