truly i think one of the biggest highlights of the current ongoing Batman and Robin for me is how much the run is not only letting Damian be a kid, but acknowledging that he is one? i know in comics land we all love to treat fifteen year olds like they're mini adults except for when it's a plot point for drama, but Damian is just... so small and has very real and normal concerns for a fifteen year old. he's grieving the fact he never got to meet his paternal grandfather and that he never got a chance at a "normal" life, he's desperate for approval from an adult figure that doesn't come conditional on his own performance, and he's really beginning to hit a point in development where he's started to fully process that his parents are people too, not just figures crystallized in the ages he thinks of them.
he's old enough to begun truly realizing how circumstances shaped the lives of his parents and grandparents, and he's reasonably distressed at realizing he'll never truly know what they were like before time and trauma changed them! it's a very important part of development! and thinking about him daydreaming about what it would've been like to know Bruce a little bit younger, a little bit kinder... man. that hurts.
i don't really have a point to this post, but. god. this run hurts me. i hope the trauma from this arc doesn't put him off still pursuing his hopes of becoming a doctor. i think it'd be a healthy direction for him to take as a character to have a true career and outlet outside of just hero work, even if he continues to be a vigilante alongside it.
