In a world that teaches us to desire to be made much of, I've ironically found that my moments of deepest satisfaction have instead come when I fully appreciate just how small I am. Standing on the precipice, gazing over just a minute corner of the universe. Listening to the rolling thunder and the pouring rain. Staring at the infinite sky with its innumerable stars. It is in those moments that I feel most alive, because it is in those moments that I am irresistibly driven to worship. We were meant to worship not ourselves, or the work of our hands, but the One who created us. Missions exists because such worship doesn't.
People ask me why Jordan. Why the Middle East? Well, there's the command. But then there's also the compulsion. I think now the glorious imagery of Revelation 7 drives my heart for missions even more than the Great Commission. The command reveals our obligation to the unreached. The compulsion flows from a heart filled with affection for Christ and the unreached.
Then I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!"
I'm living for that day. I want to spend my life hastening that day.
