the soft ping signalled that the elevator had reached its destination, izzy’s eyes shifting up briefly to the numbers between sips of coffee. usually a good sleeper, she’d found herself needing a little extra concealor to help feign the look of a good night’s sleep and she hoped to anyone else it wouldn’t be so apparent. in the forty minutes it took for her to walk home, she’d wrestled with how she felt, how he seemed to feel the same, and what she was going to do about it. of course, there wasn’t an obvious answer. what could she do? instead she’d come up empty handed and found herself tossing and turning for the rest of the night. she simply couldn’t get bash out of her head. she flicked the ends of her high-ponytail off the shoulder of her cropped black turtleneck as she let her eyes linger on her own reflection in the elevator doors. had she chosen a slip skirt for the way it had clung to her? a quiet laugh left her lips as the doors opened and she was reminded that she had actual legitimate work to do and that she couldn’t act like a flustered sixteen year old. for all she knew he’d gone home, taken one look at his wife, and forgotten izzy’s name completely. at 3am in her pitch black bedroom that had felt like a very real possibility. she didn’t look for him as she stepped off the elevator, making a beeline to her new office door to let herself in. it didn’t take her long to get settled behind the desk and to already feel a little overwhelmed at the sheer number of e-mails to catch up on. thank god for that extra shot of espresso, she thought as she pushed her sleeves midway up her forearm. she’d left the door ajar in case she was needed but part of her was also hoping for privacy as she did everything she could to just focus on work.
