Just FYI guys, I've made a page to display the most recently updated room layouts and the lists of claimed rooms, that I will be updating as things change, and I've also linked to it on the basecanons page. So check that out if you need the information for something you'd like to do, and if you haven't claimed a room yet, please let me know so I can keep it current! Thanks!

Here are the room preferences people have given me so far. If I've made a mistake, let me know. I'll update this list as more people tell me which room they'd like. The room floorplan is here.
Oh wait so twin bunks are in the quarters right? Does this mean they have roommates?
Ah ha, something else I should have been more clear about. What I meant was that the rooms would each have a single twin size bed, meaning a bed large enough for one person to sleep in comfortably, but probably not two.
Oops, so I edited the basecanon about the living quarters to make it more obvious that they're two separate buildings with identical amenities and not like, one big building that both teams share. Keeping RED and BLU from fraternizing would be a pretty useless thing for the Admin to attempt if that was the case. :B
As you can see, the base blog is up and (mostly) ready to go! Please give it a follow (along with the new Admin blog here) if you haven't already so we're all ready for the move! Remember that tomorrow is the day Mountain Lab will finally be declared unlivable, and the move itself will happen on Saturday.
Also please go ahead and look through the pages, familiarize yourself with the new stuff, and please please let me know if you find any mistakes, anything that's confusing or badly worded, or if you just have any questions. This blog needs to be a functional resource for base members, after all.
So I'm on my lunch break, and I just spent all morning cleaning and writing down every dumb basecanon idea I had in the memo app on my phone. I figure we'll have another group chat next week in order to talk about this stuff in more detail, but there's nothing wrong with starting the conversation a little early and getting ourselves thinking. None of these are set in stone or anything, these are just my ideas. If you don't like them, or think any of them should be amended or changed, please let me know! If you all like these basecanons, I can add them to the blog and we can consider them in effect when the move happens. And please suggest your own, if you have any!
-The road leading up the canyon to Upward is very obscure, little more than a winding dirt track, and is quite dangerous. The desert surrounding the base is also very inhospitable; barring the close proximity of the high canyon walls, there are also snakes, scorpions, coyotes, and other dangerous wildlife to contend with. Temperatures can also get extreme, becoming very hot during the day and very cold at night. Getting stranded out in the desert is not advised.
-Each base has their own living quarters, consisting of a two story building, with the mercs' rooms on the second story and the kitchen and mess hall, rec room, medbay, gym, locker room, and workshops on the first. The medbay is shared by all the Medics on that team. Workshops are shared by all the Engineers on that team, have doors leading to the outside to aid in loading and unloading, and are attached to the garage where base vehicles are kept.
-Mercs rooms come standard with a twin size bunk, a dresser, a desk, a chair, and a bedside table. Any additional furniture must be procured by the mercs. If a couple wanted to share a room they'd probably have to push two of the bunks together, though the Admin frowns on cohabitation. Rooms are not assigned and the mercs can claim any room not previously occupied.
-The locker room is where the mercs prepare for battle and return when battle is over. This includes communal showers, which are unisex. The living quarters contain bathrooms with stalls and communal showers that are gender segregated.
(It would be really neat if we could eventually have an actual layout schematic for the living quarters, though I confess that's not something I know how to do. If any of you knows how and would be willing to make one for us, I'd probably marry you.)
-Outside the living quarters are batting cages and practice targets, to help the mercs keep up their training.
-Unlike at ML, the Administrator can be found on base in an administration building located away from the battlefield and living quarters. This building is heavily guarded by turrets and absolutely awash in cameras. Both Ms Bathory and Miss Pauling have their offices here.
(I'll leave Miss Pauling's living quarters up to Ariel. As for Miss Bathory, she's left purposefully ambiguous.)
-In both bases, there are visible cameras located in: the rec room, the gym, the kitchen, the locker room, and the mess hall. Mercs from the opposing team wishing to visit friends would do well to avoid these areas, as being seen by the Admin there could result in punishment. As far as anyone can tell, there are no cameras in the bathrooms, medbays, workshops, or the mercs individual rooms. Cameras also observe the battlefield, though their locations are less easy to spot.
(We can decide if there are secret cameras or bugs in the individual rooms later on, if that's something we end up wanting to use for a plot.)
-Most food and other items supplied by the base are cheap and of low quality. Food is heavily skewed towards canned meat, beans, and coffee; vegetables are provided but they're mostly canned. Alcohol is not provided. Linens and towels are thin and scratchy, the soap smells awful and dries out your skin, and the toilet paper is best not mentioned at all. If the mercs want booze or anything fancy, they have to put in a request (which may be denied) or procure the items themselves.
(I can put together a list of standard supplies so we know what is usually available, and so I have a list to draw from when things are short.)
-Non-hybrid mercs are allowed off base at any time barring during battle hours. A possible punishment for misbehavior could be the restriction of this freedom for a period of time. Hybrids wear a tracking device and are not allowed off base.
-Pets are allowed but must be kept off the battlefield at all times (they don't have a respawn chip, so this is just common sense). Their owners must provide for their food and other needs themselves.
-Mercs take turns doing chores every week, as assigned by the Admin. Those who get MVP are exempt from chore duty.
Chores are divided up as follows:
Kitchen and mess hall
Bathrooms and locker room
Rec room and gym
Corpse duty
Chores, especially corpse duty, can be assigned as punishments. Mercs are responsible for their own rooms, medbays, and workshops as applicable.
(If your character is assigned a chore, which I'd do randomly the same way I do MVP picks, you don't have to actually write them out doing it unless you want to. We can assume they're doing it unless you express otherwise. Just another thing to create drama and give an incentive to get MVP.)
-Things that may result in punishment:
Fighting with other mercs, on either team, outside of battle hours.
Fraternizing with the enemy.
Skipping battle, unless for medical reasons.
Stealing from the company or other mercs.
Trespassing in the opposing team's living quarters.
Repeated lackluster performance in battle.
(Punishments would only be given out if agreed on by the rper in question. I'd like for the mercs to face some hardship from being at a base with strict rules, though, for drama purposes, so it wouldn't make sense to have a character repeatedly ignoring the rules and not getting in trouble. Obviously I still want things like cross-team fraternization to happen, but the mercs should be sneaky about it. I think it's more fun that way anyway.)
Alright guys, that's what I got! Let me know what you think!

As we may have mentioend, we're going to try and get together some blueprints/layouts of the base and surrounding area so that we all have a similar idea of what the setting looks like. We all know how difficult it is to write a character floating in a nebulous void!
A few personal headcanons we have come up with include:
A Shower/bathroom that all the mercenaries must share, rather than personal bathrooms
Medics rooms being connected to one medbay that they must all share
Heavies having larger rooms due to their size (Here meaning, larger beds, doorways, etc.)
Using these two examples, we think it would be helpful if the rooms were grouped together by class.
We really want to hear your personal headcanons on this one, guys. It's your base too.
As we're currently working on base canons for certain things one issue we've come across is the healing mechanics in game. We want to get an idea of how realistically our members approach these mechanics themselves (such as medpacks, mediguns, etc). Do you all prefer a more realistic explanation for how these things work or do you rely more on pseudo-science/fantasy? We'd like to know how you view this so we can make a decision that fits well and get everyone's say in it! So please let us know!
Because of the positive responses we received regarding the respawn basecanons we've decided to make them official. We will start working on a page on this blog that has our basecanons for other things (such as base layouts, battle time, and things like that). We will be posting these ideas out to you all in groups in order to gain approval or disapproval (or criticisms). This way we can establish how certain aspects of the base run. Remember though these are things that just apply to Mountain Lab.
