Christmas break, 3 weeks without cyclocross, means time to get get some base miles in and enjoy the social rides. - @RudyMelo
Hey
Anyone who follows me live in Texas or going to SXSW?? I'll be heading down to Austin for spring break for the week of the 16th! If you're around there and want to meet up, hit me up! Getting excited for a week of riding bikes and chillin' to the max!Â
Yesterday I went on a really cold solo ride. Some of the usual roads were covered in ice or snow, some impassable. It made for an interesting day, but honestly it turned out to be pretty enjoyable. We’re definitely getting an actual winter here, so you gotta just take the good with the bad.
Base miles, fog, sun, decent weather and great people. Today was a good one.

Winter is Here.
Cupcakes. I saw a picture of them on the internet and now I want cupcakes.
I can’t will myself to do anything about this tho. I have no cupcakes, and its a trek to find one in Portland I can eat. I’m far too exhausted to make that sort of effort. Its just another post-ride craving, the kind that will come randomly as my body eats and rebuilds itself all winter. In my post-ride haze I think maybe…maybe if I eat a sweet potato while I look at a picture of a cupcake I can fool myself into having the craving satisfied. Nope. Time for a nap.
This is week two of base period. With some of my goals for next year coming earlier I’ve started earlier than I ever have. Being unemployed currently I am adding a few more hours than I going into the 2012 season.
Love/hate this re-starting period. Still so nice to come at home completly empty:)

Stybar’s tweet rang true to me. I got a bit spoiled last week with several rides being with others, which help the miles fly by. The last two days were a bit more rough. Solo rides with head winds, shitty drivers, and exhaustion. But coming home empty, knowing I am working towards the endurance that will allow me to compete at a high level next year, makes it all worth it.
End of the out, time for the back.
