Because the university’s student halls are in that ward too, and we pick up votes from them and they’re people we want to attract. Plus it’s good to be able to say we’re standing in every ward for council, doing the same in Hull and Manchester too iirc. If it hadn’t been for NHAP pulling out in Hallam, and one of the TUSC council candidates not being registered to vote (d’oh!!!!), there would have been an anti-cuts candidate in every seat contested in Sheffield, which would’ve been quite good. Class War are a bit weird imo (I don’t get the point of standing parliamentary candidates in rich seats (well, parliamentary candidates full stop) if you’re not going for the media threshold) but I guess they’re going for the political statement.
