These smoked baked beans in a cast iron skillet are infused with rich, smoky flavor from the smoker. The combination of barbecue sauce, bacon, and spices creates a mouthwatering side dish that complements any barbecue feast.
Ingredients: 4 cans 15 oz each of navy beans, drained and rinsed. 1 cup barbecue sauce. 1/2 cup ketchup. 1/4 cup brown sugar. 1/4 cup molasses. 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar. 1 medium onion, finely chopped. 1/2 cup bell pepper, diced. 4 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled. 1 teaspoon mustard powder. 1 teaspoon garlic powder. 1 teaspoon smoked paprika. Salt and pepper to taste.
Instructions: Set the smoker's temperature to 225F 107C. Navy beans, barbecue sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, apple cider vinegar, diced bell pepper, chopped onion, crumbled bacon, smoked paprika, mustard powder, and garlic powder should all be combined in a cast-iron skillet. Blend thoroughly. To guarantee uniform smoke flavor, place the cast iron skillet in the preheated smoker and smoke it for two hours, stirring from time to time. Verify the beans' consistency after two hours. You can add some water or apple juice if they're too dry. Smoke the beans for a further one to two hours, or until they are as soft and smoky as you like. Before serving, take the skillet out of the smoker and give it a few minutes to rest. Serve hot smoked baked beans as a flavorful accompaniment to your smoked or barbecued meats.
