Ban Rak
Today we completed the part of the Mae Hong Son loop that actually brings you to Mae Hong Son. Once again, the journey was full of terrifying switchbacks and jaw-dropping views.
Before reaching the city, we took a detour to Ban Rak, an old Chinese village near the border of Myanmar.
The beauty of this village was totally ridiculous.
We were hoping to buy maybe a sticker or a magnet to commemorate our visit, but the only souvenirs on offer were tea and this stray dog.
Reluctantly, we decided to leave Ban Rak at a responsible time so we could make it to the hotel before dark. But, James's bike wouldn't start. He was able to Flintstone his way to a running engine that miraculously got him to our next destination, but it looks like the battery is kaput.
Tomorrow, we'll be spending a full unplanned day in Mae Hong Son while the bike is repaired. Mae pen rai! I could use a rest day anyway.
Here's another little snippet of biker paradise.
