generally If the original dub is Japanese I tend to go for it instead of English bsc I know it's extremely rare for them to change voice actors, it should be the same everywhere, I can't separate a character from its actor, doing so is irresponsible to the character and the talent and to us the fans, I don't want another person replacing you if they ever release a new hyrule warriors and they include the champions, regardless of how good the new person is, why does this happen?
There’s probably several factors at play, with only a few noted here:
1) The original talent may not be available at the time the production team is working on the game featuring their character. To my knowledge, the reason why I replaced Liam O’Brien was because at the time that SMT IV: Apocalypse was in post-production, he was busy with another (much larger) project and would not be able to set the time aside to come in to record. Thus, a voice-match audition was held.
2) Different companies may get licensing rights to different forms of the project. One infamous example is how BangZoom! had the rights to dub the DanganRonpa videogame while FUNimation secured the rights to the anime. I imagine this happens a lot less often in Japan (where much more of the country is accessible in a faster time when necessary), but something as simple as a different studio having the rights to the work can change the entire cast.
3) Cultural differences - Japan’s “seiyuu” scene has a lot more celebrity power behind it than the voiceover industry in the United States; famous voice actors in Japan have extremely dedicated fanbases and switching them out could cause actual, discernible profit loss for a company. In the US, this is not even nearly the case; voices are often desired but not demanded, and even this is argued time and time again on internet forums.
With that said, I sure hope to stay as Revali if he does somehow get ported to other Nintendo IPs!
