Rapmonster Controversy
So recently, Kim Namjoon said some words when he was asked a question. Interviewer: So what was your first impression of BTS? Rap Monster : "When I first saw V and Jhope, I couldn't see them because they were too black. Yeah when the nights get too dark I couldn't find them. " In Korea it is a social standard of beauty that is accepted where people who have farer skin are more 'pretty'. Its not right but thats the society that they live and are brought up in so that is what they know and think. In this case if you actually know Namjoon's level of English speaking you would know that even though he can understand it well he often makes grammar and word choice mistakes. I am a black/dark skinned fan and I don't find his remark offensive at all to be honest. But thats just my opinion and I understand that. However, he should have been more careful, if he wasn't sure how to express what he was trying to say he should've either said it in english and then said it again in korean or just in korean. (Also IM PRETTY SURE HE MEANT DARK INSTEAD OF BLACK BUT YEAH) He should've been more careful as BTS do have a multicultural fandom and some people may get hurt over words like 'black'. But the truth is we are black/dark skinned. I don't see why saying they were black is offensive to anyone as it is how we interpret the word is how it will effect. Also they are so close I'm pretty sure t hey insult each other all the time. But I can see where others are coming from. Well, I didn't want to ramble on about this all but in conclusion, PLEASE stop sending death threats, insulting him and excluding him from the group. If you actually felt sincerely wronged by his comment tell him without all the threats etc. so he can understand your pov and take your comment so that he can take your views into consideration and reflect on what made all you unhappy. Hate will only make the world a more hateful place. Don't spread the hate. Spread the word. I'm not defending him I'm just putting out my opinion on this issue as a fan of BTS and rap monster as well as kpop.
