I lost interest last season. I've never been a regular viewer because TWD just didn't get me invested in the characters, but a good friend of mine, a veteran who is anything but squeamish and huge TWD fan, said that she and her guy felt that TWD crossed the line with brutality in the premiere.
I really think the whole âcrossing the lineâ is only cause two beloved characters died in such a horrible way and we were made to watch it in a pretty detailed manner.
I bet money, had those been two random people or evil characters (or walkers), no one would give a fuck about the level of brutality. With villains, people probably would have even cheered. (The Governor for example...no one would care if he had his head bashed in for the things heâs done)
That said, I get people were upset. I myself am a huge fan of gore and even the âtorture pornâ genre, but when it was Glennâs turn I had to turn away and could not watch it till it was all over.
But really, that was cause it was Glenn. I really loved him and also Maggie and having her watch and suffer and him die like that urgh...
So I really think itâs unjustified to judge it as a bad episode based on having to much violence, when what really is bothering people is having that level of violence inflicted on fan-faves, not the level of violence itself.
The show is full of other violent and disgusting scenes and always has been. Iâm thinking how Dale died, Andrea breaking a walkers jaw, cutting open walkers to look inside, Bethâs brains flying out, Noahâs death, Glennâs dumbstergate, cutting of Hershelâs head, all the gore of zombies eating ppl, many of the zombie-kills.
All very violent, bloody and gory, with the difference, that it were not long-living fan-loved characters.
