War Water (also called Iron Water) is a powerful tool in witchcraft used for protection, hexing, banishing, and warding off enemies. It originates from Hoodoo, Appalachian folk magic, and other mystical traditions.
Uses of War Water:
• Protection – Sprinkle around your home to create a spiritual barrier.
• Banishing – Throw it where unwanted people have walked to remove their influence.
• Cursing – Toss onto an enemy’s property to bring discord and bad luck.
• Warding Off Negativity – Add to floor washes or sprinkle near entrances.
• In Spellwork - Use in rituals for breaking curses, creating wards, or calling upon warrior spirits.
Needed:
• Rusty nails (or iron shavings or railroad spikes)
• Water (preferably storm or river water for extra potency)
• Salt (black salt for cursing, sea salt for protection)
• Cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes (for aggression and strength)
• Vinegar – Used to sour relationships in cursing spells.
• Mugwort or Rue – For added spiritual power.
Instructions:
Place the rusty nails or iron in a jar. If your nails aren’t rusty, leave them in water for a few weeks to oxidize. Fill the jar with water. Use stormwater for aggressive energy, river water for powerful flow, or tap water if necessary. Add salt and herbs and let it sit for at least a week. The longer it sits, the stronger it becomes. Some witches let it develop for months. Shake or stir when using, the rust, herbs, and salt should be well mixed before application.

Sprinkle sea salt or black salt along windowsills, thresholds, or in corners of rooms. Salt absorbs and repels negative energy. You can also place bowls of salt in corners for ongoing protection (just replace regularly).
🌿 2. Protective herbs in corners or jars
Use rosemary, bay leaf, clove, cinnamon, or sage. Place dried herbs in small jars, sachets, or dishes in each corner of the room to absorb and ward off negativity.
🪞 3. Visualize mirrored or glowing barriers
Close your eyes and see a glowing, mirrored dome around your space that reflects all negativity away. Say:
“No harm may enter. Only light and truth remain.”
🧿 4. Charge and place protective items
Use crystals like black tourmaline, obsidian, or amethyst at entry points. Enchant them with your intention by saying:
“I charge this stone to guard this space.”
🕯 5. Seal doors & windows
Mix olive oil with rosemary or clove essential oil. Trace sigils, crosses, or protective runes on doors and windows. You can whisper affirmations or blessings as you seal each point.
🧼 6. Cleanse before you ward
Always cleanse your space with smoke (rosemary, incense), sound (bells, claps), or sprays (saltwater, moon water) before warding. Think of it like sweeping before locking the door.
🕰 7. Refresh your wards monthly
Energy shifts. Full moons, new months, or after heavy emotional events are great times to reset and reinforce your wards.
based on my original recipe for stardust powder, this recipe is meant to be used for baneful acts of magic such as curses and hexes.
ingredients:
sea salt
black glitter (environmentally friendly, of course)
wormwood - to cause strife and misfortune to a target
small jar
instructions:
combine the ingredients and grind together using a mortar and pestle
add the mixture to a small jar and seal
leave in the path of starlight to charge overnight
use in spell jars, poppets, or other magical rituals
warning: handle wormwood with care - do not sprinkle on the ground where pets or small children may have access to it, and if you decide to burn this powder in any way, do so outside where it’s well ventilated.
A banishment is a magical process, used with the intent and purpose of banishing and getting rid of energies when you're about to do a ritual or at the end of it - it depends on what you like. It's like cleaning stuff and putting a box to throw away, a banishment is used to get rid of energies from a place, a thought, a feeling, or to banish certain people from your life.
It is also possible to place an intention on the banishment and directly “attack” the person or situation that is disrupting your life.
While there are witches who prefer not to do any banishment - myself included, I think everyone should know how to perform at least one method of banishment to protect themselves and their own space. Some might say that banishment goes hand in hand with protection.
When to banish?
It's recommended to perform a banishing whenever you feel vulnerable. If you're in an unfamiliar place or feel an energy that transmits an unwanted sensation, perform a banishing. Whenever you begin and end a ritual, the practice of banishing before and after rituals ensures that no intrusive energy interferes. Initially, it serves as a warning that only invited guests may enter the circle. Finally, it confirms that only the emanated energies resonate with the Universe.
Upon waking and before bed. Banishing upon waking helps keep your strengths active so that the day is free from unwanted influences. Before bed, it protects you in the dream world.
Which banishing to do?
To be effective, the banishment needs to make sense to you as an expulsion. It's important to test different approaches and see which ones work for your psyche, understanding that you're strengthening yourself in the face of your weakness.
It is recommended to have at least three types of bans in your repertoire:
A simple and discreet method that can be used in public environments;
A ritualistic method, used during magical acts;
An elaborate method for correcting spells gone wrong or dealing with more complex obsessions and possessions.
Types of banishing
Sound: with musical instruments, bells, music or songs.
Physical: with sigils, meditation, amulets, herbal baths.
Mental: with visualizations of symbols or making them in the air with a finger or equivalent instrument.
It's possible to combine different types of banishing to enhance results. Ideally, you should create and customize your own methods. Prayer or mantra, for example, are powerful banishing rituals that bring you into a mental state aligned with your intentions to promote energetic cleansing.
Discreet banishings
Watch something funny (video, joke) to shift thoughts from fear/insecurity to something fun.
Snap your fingers so the negative energy goes away.
Put on some banishing music in your headphones and listen carefully. Have a playlist ready for this. Or make your own mantra / song.
Make the movement of wiping dust from your clothes, visualizing the bad energy being expelled. Pass your hand in front of your body, forming an energy shield.
Draw protective or banishing sigils repeatedly on paper or your skin.
Say a prayer to the gods or spirits you trust for protection.
Ritualistic banishings
Make a magic circle around you.
Burn protective herbs around the home, light some incense, sprinkle salt over the windows and doors.
Light a black candle anointed with oil (from top to bottom) to draw out unwanted energy. After it burns, break the wax and discard. If necessary, write the name of the person attacking you on the candle, crossing it out.
Place sachets of protective herbs or banishing sigils in the ritual area and invoke their forces during the act.
Play a percussion instrument (earth) to ground energies or a bell (air) to carry them with the wind.
Draw banishing symbols in the air with your finger, wand, or athame at the cardinal points. You can also form the symbol by snapping your fingers.
Complex banishings
Purification and protection herbal bath, with herbs like coarse salt, rosemary and rue. Or do an egg cleansing.
To banish an object: Place it in a box of coarse salt, in the center of a circle of black candles anointed with protective oil and salt. Then, bury the box away from home.
Prepare banishing spells by asking for help from spiritual mentors, gods, or nearby spirits.
For energy sent by someone: use a magic doll representing the person and work on potential mental pattern changes.
Make representations of the person or situation to be banished and place them in a mirror box consecrated for banishment.
There are also famous banishing models, the most famous being that of the Golden Dawn; the Ritual of the Lesser Pentacle (RMP) is a fundamental ceremonial ritual in modern occultism, created by the Order of the Golden Dawn to protect and focus a practitioner before magical workings. The ritual involves visualizing pentagrams at the four cardinal points, along with invoking divine names and archangels, to seal a magical circle of protection.
Another famous model is the Ruby Star Ritual (Lesser Ritual of the Pentagram for Thelema), a banishing and invocation ritual based on Thelema and Chaldeans, conceived by Aleister Crowley. It uses a set of gestures, Greek and Latin words of power, and the visualization of pentagrams to invoke and banish forces, beginning with the Kabbalistic Cross and purification, and concluding with the closing of the circle.
Do what seems right for you when you're banishing.

I found a dead yellow jacket I wanted to take (had the gut feeling I should, Loki encouraged I felt) for like a baneful protection thing or to add to my already decently potent war water but I bitched out bc I didn't know enough also the concept of yellow jacket pheromones scared me a bit.
But if I *did* take it it would've gone with the dead spiders I had the the feeling he urged me to take and the moth wing.
....
Is being a witch just collecting dead animals for baneful wards?
