Serie A side Genoa sack Davide Ballardini re-hire Ivan Juric for third time

Genoa and Chievo have made the first coaching changes of this season’s Serie A, with Davide Ballardini and Lorenzo d’Anna respectively being dismissed.

Enrico Preziosi didn’t have any kind words for Davide Ballardini, calling the former Genoa boss “a terrible coach” after his sacking on Tuesday.

The Grifone announced the Italian was let go, replacing him with predecessor Ivan Juric, despite sitting just three points back of fourth place with a game in hand.

Those results clearly weren’t enough for the Genoa owner, who labeled Ballardini as nothing more than a caretaker coach.

“His past speaks for itself,” he told corriere.it. “He’s been sacked 13 times in 14 seasons.

“The only time he finished a season was with Sambenedettese in Serie C. He earned some credit with us last season, but he remains someone that can only step into complicated situations.

“He isn’t capable of making a step up in quality. Juric is an attacking coach. I made a mistake in keeping Ballardini after I saw him deal with the negative results of last season.

“I didn’t enjoy sacking him, but I couldn’t continue on with someone who puts in those kind of performances. I spoke with him for an hour and a half and he didn’t give me the answers I was looking for.

“He’s a terrible coach.”

Genoa’s next match sees them travel to Turin for a clash with Juventus on October 20.
