Back in Miami after a much needed break visiting family and friends overseas and making new acquaintances while traveling. Just wanting to express my gratitude to be able to achieve what I have, so far, in this lifetime, and grateful for a great life (not without a few stumbles and hardships along the way), but grateful that I share DNA with strong women (and men) that have forged in me the courage to continue fighting and living each day to the fullest, even when I feel unenthusiastic - then the energy of a greater being reminds me I have nothing to worry about and « I can do this! » Right now, I look forward to keep fighting for what I believe in and I take deep breathes of hope and faith, and muster physical energy and moxie to « keep on trucking ». Back to my routine, I am planning for my next course at @mdckendall as part of @mepaa.dance beginning Monday, September 9th, and I am thrilled to have been invited to teach workshops in collaboration with @alinalotusbellydance on Saturday, September 21st and @majilynbellydance on Sunday, September 22nd, and a lovely invitation with @sayuri.bellydance to perform in her event the weekend of October 18th, 19th and 20th. (I will be posting profusely about all these dance events soon. In the meantime, I have to keep dealing with META restricting how many hashtags I can use daily … go figure? Hooray for freedom of expression and speech! Grateful for the rebel that I am! ✊ In the meantime, hope you all will join my classes again for the fall and other events. Wishing all a great rest of the week and remainder of August! Those who know me well know how much I love autumn and winter and all the upcoming celebrations (may we all be fortunate to continue enjoying them all), and especially Halloween! See you all soon, God willing and the creek don’t rise! #Alhamduhlillah 🙏♥️ #raks_on #raks_on_jihanjamal👑 #bellydance #mermaidsofthenilestudentdancetheatre 🧜♀️♥️

I need to drive down Nile street with my friends. Or just cause I need to clear my head. I need to be excited when it rains and run out to the street just to feel it on my skin. I need to know seed aldukkan. I need to be stopped by a policeman and argue with him for 15 minutes. I need to be in an intersection where the traffic lights don’t work. I need to wake up at 6am because we have 20 guests coming at 6pm. I need to call my cousin cause some shit happened at home or my crush texted me. I need to go to the neighborhood tailor to make a dress for an upcoming wedding. I need to drop my mom off at my aunt’s house. I need to spend a week in Aljazeera dying to go back to Khartoum. I need to sleep and wake up drenched in sweat cause the power went out. I need to take a tray of food down to our neighbors during Ramadan.
I need to be in Sudan. Painfully and desperately.
Egyptian Hawawshi
"The pita bread was slit open and filled with a thin layer of a meat mixture that stayed pleasingly moist after baking, mildly flavored with onion and garlic, with pickles on the side to act as palate cleansers between bites." Egyptian Hawawshi
Hawawshi, an Egyptian street food, is a flatbread stuffed with a seasoned mixture of minced beef and/or lamb and baked. Many articles online claim that they were invented in Cairo in the early 1970s by an Egyptian butcher either named Mohamed al-Hawawshi or Ahmed el-Hawawsh. However, Travel Food Atlas points out that hawash may also be a word for “to stuff” in Egyptian Arabic. I have been unable…
