The Bal-Bal is a type of undead monster in Philippine mythology. It is said to steal corpses from graveyards and devour them. It is able to sniff out dead bodies, and has large teeth and claws to tear into its food source. Its breath is foul due to its diet of the dead.
Once the body is devoured, the Bal-Bal will leave the trunk of a banana tree in the coffin to make it seem as though the body is still there. They are sometimes described as a vampire.
