Iron Age Pre Islamic Arabian things that survive in Oman... I remember reading about the rock art and some experts saying it was men with spears riding horses and camels, but they obviously never saw "Al ardah". In the plain between Bahla and Al Hamra are a great many stones, some with old Southern Arabic inscriptions and figures enacting Al ardah...although the ones with horses did seem to be lances not standing riders, the riders ride in unison and stand. Pictures below are all my own. Above belong to Crowne Plaza Hotel, and the others are from the rock art study by A. Fossatti.
