February 25, 1720 - I, John Evans, Am Still Alive and Providing Cupping Services to the Quality
Whereas (for some Years) several Persons of Quality, and others, have sent Messengers to John Evans the Cupper, at the Two Gilt and Blue Spires in Brownlow-street near Drury-Lane, to attend them at their Houses in his Business, but some of those Messengers (by Mistake) have gone to other Bagnio’s, and the Master or Servants of those Bagnio’s have thereupon attended on several of the Quality and others, pretending themselves to be the said John Evans; and when they came to such as knew the said Evans personally, they have then pretended to be his Servants; and the better to impose upon the Publick, these ignorant Pretenders have given out, that the said Evans is either dead, or left off his Business. This is therefore to give Notice, that the said John Evans continues his Business at the Place aforesaid, where there’s good Conveniencies for private Sweating, Hot or Cold Bathing, and Cupping with the greatest Ease imaginable. And when desired to wait on any Persons at their Houses, the same Attendance shall be given as usual. N.B. There’s no Person follows the Business (That was taught and instru cted by Mr. Verdier) desides the said John Evans.
