Wilgruf Stormheid (actual name: Clarion Daleoin), age 46 (actual age: several thousand years old)

“Wilgruf” owns a tavern just this side of the halfling lands. He has a large, bushy (patently false) mustache and coppery short-cropped curly hair and matching “beard” (clearly made from his own hair clippings). An elf who got bored with nonsense poetry and elegance, he decided to dive into the homey rusticness of the other people’s lands, embracing human and halfling attitudes toward food, drink, hospitality, and ownership.

The patrons of his tiny tavern (The Clipped Wing, whose sign depicts a gull’s wing losing an alarming number of feathers to a sword) have an unspoken agreement to ignore with aggressive intentionality any and all signs that he could be anything other than a typical enthusiastic human barkeeper. This is due in no small part to the particular excellence of his wine and beer, and the fact that he doesn’t have too good a grasp on the current value of currency and sells most things for a penny or less. (Since he doesn’t buy much, having brewed his own wares, he hasn’t noticed yet.) The halflings want as little drama as possible, so long as they can get their good booze in a quiet, clean corner, and the humans have a running bet of how long Wilgruf can keep up the act before betraying himself.

Everything would be going according to plan, until love struck…
