about a year ago, I told this kid off for losing his coin purse at school. i didn’t think much of it, and he didn’t seem upset at all then. fast forward to yesterday. he refused to take money to school today to buy a Mothers Day present. and we finally figured out the whole story. he had dropped the purse into a concrete grill at school after buying the present last year, and I had been angry. so this year, he didn’t want to lose it again - and he decided was not going to take a coin purse out ever again. 😖 I had gotten upset that he hadn’t taken care of his purse. but the worry that he had put on himself had weighed so heavily on him all this time. he worried for a whole year. we talked about it, and I hope I’ve cleared his worries. we did a little exercise on negative consequences to ease his mind. 💕 I share this story with his permission, because the words we say to our children can carry so much more than we can ever realize. #badmommoment as an adult now, I remember moments from my childhood that formed parts of who I am today. they are not clear memories but have formed perceptions that I carry, and some of these perceptions really don’t make sense. but it did when we were kids. it sits in our subconscious mind. it stops us from living our own lives fully sometimes. like me on being a perfectionist, not attempting to do something because we won’t be able to well anyway, so what’s the point? glad I kicked that habit out into the bin. i’m not a bad mom, but definitely a human mom. and I learn from my experiences. as always, my inbox is open for a chat. 💕 https://www.instagram.com/p/CdImg4zvmbK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
