I found two articles that are applicable to understanding the history queer experience at the University of Florida, specifically in Student Government. “‘A Different Kind of Activism’: The University of Florida Committee on Sexism and Homophobia, 1981-1992” by Brittney L. Beck which talks about the history of activism and the queer experience with it at UF as well as the creation of The UF Committee on Sexism and Homophobia. There is a focus on civil rights of queer people during which the author emphasizes the role of faculty and staff. 

Jessica Clawson’s “Coming Out of the Campus Closet: The Emerging Visibility of Queer Students at the University of Florida, 1970-1982” focuses on the history of LGBTQ+ student visibility at UF. This includes the expansion of student affairs offices and social protest movements. Because the queer experience is so frequently removed from history, specifically in higher education, this article expands on the topic.

Title: An Examination of Campus Climate for LGBTQ Community College Students

About: Examines the campus climate for LGBT undergraduate students at community colleges

Title: ASEE safe zone workshops and virtual community of practice to promote LGBTQ equality in engineering

Author(s): Stephanie Farrell et. al

About: a project that aimed to “identify aspects of engineering culture that present barriers to LGBTQ equality, build knowledge and skills to disrupt discrimination and promote LGBTQ equality in engineering departments on college campuses, and to identify best practices for promoting LGBTQ equality in engineering.

During our initial background research, I came across an article called “Perceived social support in the lives of gay, bisexual and queer Hispanic college men” that coined the phrase ‘support in the air.’ The researchers, Rios and Eaton, defined this as a general sense of a supportive environment for the gay, bisexual, and queer men they did interviews with. When I introduced this concept to the rest of my group, we agreed that this could be a useful way to frame and label some of the feelings expressed by our interviewees. 

Another article I found useful as background information was an article called “Gay and Greek: The Identity Paradox of Gay Fraternities.” Stombler’s research looks at how gay members of the national gay fraternity, Delta Lambda Phi, navigate a culture of heterosexism while participating in gay culture. Stombler identified a common challenge for the gay men- whether or not they chose to liberate themselves from straight culture or assimilate themselves into straight culture. I wanted to take note of this idea as I entered interviews with LGBTQ members of Greek life.

Consumers are on the neutral side of the stakeholder scale. By educating consumers of the environmental impact of beef, they will be able to make informed decisions about their diet.

Governance: Canadian Meat Council, Government

Stakeholders who oversee the management of meat production facilities.

Influencers: Activists

Stakeholders who are against the production and consumption of meat. These stakeholders benefit from the eradication of red meat.

Providers: Farmers, Meat Processing Companies, Truckers, Restaurants/Stores
