Past, Present and Future (part 2)
Discussing some ideas in our group we touched upon the structure of our narrative and how that affects our story. We all are aware that stories have a beginning a middle and an end but we wondered how to present this in a less traditional model of storytelling. Some ideas we thought of were:
-Having the main character interact with her past, present and future self through getting three versions of herself in the same room and interviewing all of them about their experiences.
-Dividing the screen in three parts and presenting the character in all three of them at the same time. We soon came to dislike this idea because it meant that we would have to animate three minutes worth of animation and make them fit together leaving us with an enormous work load for a single month.
-Having an ‘actions have consequences scenario’ in which an action in the past has severe consequences in the future of our character.
-Use of Flashbacks. A traditional technique that rarely goes wrong if well executed.
-Having the future version of our character visit the present and past.
-Time travelling. A bit obvious. It can work with the child character going forward in time or having it go back to the past.
-Dream scenario. We weren’t a fan of this particular scenario because it seems like an easy way out of our task. It is also very mainstream.
