Jerry, vermilion embers burning so bright as to appear larger than theyâd been, stared silently at the Revenant before him. His embers shuddered to and fro in the cloud of his body, their motion resembling that of any solid monsterâs eyes with the shaking of the head, as he brought a hand to his head. âThatâs...Thatâs a lot to process there, Gas.â
G, his left eye having returned to its rusty shade of orange as his right eye lit with a somber, gentle glow of mauve that held a generous glittering of periwinkle-merely nodded with a drag of his cigarette. Jerryâs use of the old shorthand for Gasterâs name, although slightly irritating, wasnât intolerable or necessarily unwanted. At this point in time, this was about Jerry and his grasping with the reality of their situation.
If Gâd been patient enough to not kill Error, then he could be patient for a coworker of one half of himself. âIf youâre a fusion of a Sans and a Gaster, then whereâs our Gaster?â Jerryâs question, although harmless, brought Gâs thoughts to a standstill.
If Iâm here, then Sans could theoretically fuse with this timelineâs Gaster. G thought, eyes empty of light in apprehension. But Gaster fell into the CORE, no oneâs seen him since then and I didnât see him on the way here-
âGas. Hey,â Jerryâs voice echoed in Gâs skull. âGas, snap out of it. If you donât know then you donât know; donât go down the rabbit hole, right now.â The enenraâs coals bore into Gâs sockets calmly, the impression of a soothing gesture coming across if only for the fact that Jerryâs lack of physical features made him rather disorienting and maybe even unsettling.
âYeah...â G replied distantly, his left eye glowing slightly brighter than before. âYeah, not right now.â Suddenly, his expression was that of exact horror. âJerry, whatâs the current state of the CORE?!â
âWhat?â Jerry responded, confusion audible in his voiceâs resemblance to the sound of coals being shuffled. âI dunno, I havenât gone there since Mettaton went apeshit on anything and everything in sight.â
A shadow befell Gâs expression, his left eye burning like a diesel fire in the driest of summers, as he pulled himself out of his chair and forced Jerry to lay down on the bed. The revenant loomed over the enenra ominously, his half-lidded eye burning furiously with each inch the fusion of two monsters made towards Jerryâs âfaceâ. âJerry,â G muttered softly, the tension in the air of a manner neither was sure they recognized, before shouting. âWHATâS THE STATUS OF THE CORE?!â
Silence followed the fused monsterâs demand for an answer, a clock somewhere in the barrack ticking suddenly becoming the only sound either of them could hear other than the breathing of the three monsters in the building. âI donât know!â Jerry answered, desperate to escape the presence of the fusion of his former colleague and one of the aforementioned colleagueâs two sons. âHonest and for true, Iâm clueless. Would you please get off of me?â
G said nothing, glaring damnation upon the socio-psychologist with every inch he drew himself away from the monster below him. Still silent, he strode into the barrackâs kitchen and broom closets, coming out of said locations with trashbags of various objects of seemingly no significance to anyone but himself.
Without a word, G sat himself down at a desk and began creating something with the objects heâd collected. âUh, G-â A single glance from the revenant was all it took to silence Jerry, with the skeletal monster returning to his work immediately after.
âTesting. Testing. One, two-check, check! This is Gaster, head scientist of the Undergroundâs Royal Science Division-Iâve developed interdimensional travel and am calling on this channel to anyone with access to Lady Salma of Hyabuzna, does anyone copy?â G said into a headset microphone, a wire of which was connected to a box filled with the bibs and bobs of various electrical devices in a pattern familiar to a piece of telecommunications equipment. Sitting neatly on the desk-attached to the box by another wire-was a small square of wood, atop which was wound yet another wire around a water bottle. The wire of this device was screwed down at six points; one acting as ground, two acting as connection points for the headsetâs audio receivers, another holding down the antennae, yet another serving as the detector tie point, and the last one holding down a snipped wire coat-hangar to act as the tuner. Under his breath with his digits over the microphone, G muttered, âCâmon, Olan, pick up the receiver....â
The wire-bound bottle was where G laid one of his hands to slowly tilt to and fro, tapping it impatiently as his gaze kept returning to a broken pencil that hung vertically just over a razor blade with the help of some more wire. Suddenly, the pencilâs lead was practically burning against the blade, getting G to adjust the bottle just once more.
âThis is Olan Gerk,â Came a voice through the headset, it being that of a gravelly male. âHow did you acquire this frequency? This is a private channel!â G growled under his breath, bringing the hole of his left hand up to his glowing, purple eye for a split second.
âIâm Gaster,â The revenant half-lied. âIâm the Royal Scientist, lead scientist of the Undergroundâs Royal Science Division, under direct orders from King Asgore to alert neighboring monster societies to prep for nuclear meltdown and runoff. The Undergroundâs experiencing an epidemic thatâs left the populace under major hysterical savagery, most having lost their minds to violent insanity.â
âIâm calling you,â G interrupted hurriedly, opening a book he pulled out of a drawer at his feet of the desk he sat at. âTo alert Lady Salma of Hyabuzna of the nuclear threat weâre all under! The Undergroundâs inhabitants have damaged our source of power-The CORE-at the center of the dormant volcano our societyâs been trapped within, and the COREâs sustained major damage during the riots. Myself and my associates are under express orders from the King to repair it at all costs, but itâs sustained greater damage than expected.â
âIn the event,â G interrupted again, opening the book at random places as he scrolled it with his eyes and fingertips. âOf nuclear meltdown, all neighboring monster societies should reinforce the barrier(s) containing them to preemptively counteract the potential YKT Event-Level mass extinction this would cause! The COREâs been generating power without any capability to disseminate it over the past-â G broke off for a second, pulling the headset away from his skull to look at Jerry seriously. âHow long did you say itâs been since the Glitch happened?â
âFifteen years.â Jerry said matter-of-factly, getting G to do a small double take before returning the headset to his skull.
âDamn it, the signalâs bugging out-There, I think I got it!â Olanâs voice came through. âHow long did you say the COREâs been incapable of dissemination of its generated power, please respond.â
âF-Fifteen years. Holy shit, has it really been that long?â G quietly said in a shaky tone, placing a holed hand to his forehead as he got into the persona he was portraying. Shaking his head as he method acted, he continued, âMy associate(s) and I are going to attempt reparations of the CORE, but in the event of failure....â
âAlright,â Olan said affirmatively. âIâve a few more questions for you, Gaster.â
âI know who Lady Salma is because Iâve been in universes where contact between Hyabuzna and the Underground was already pre-established.â G said matter-of-factly, not even a shred of hesitance in his voice. âBefore you ask for proof, here it is: youâre a star-nosed member of the race of sapient, bipedal Talpidae-standing at five-inches-three-centimeters, youâre not the tallest your species has to offer. Youâve served neither war nor worship in the past two years of your life, and Iâm well-aware of the tumor that is growing from your prostate-Iâm the one who found it while I was inserting a tubed message into your ass when I did so. It was extremely awkward for the both of us...â
â...â Silence followed Gâs statement, a look of anxiety crossing the revenantâs face with his turning of nobs and adjusting his headset being his immediate response.
âI havenât told anyone about that...â Olanâs unnerved mutter came through, interrupting Gâs attempt at pointlessly reestablishing a connect. The sound of a small animalâs shaking of water became audible as the sapient mole spoke again, this time with a false audibility of certainty. âBut thatâs information an ethereal stalker couldâve acquired simply by phasing through buildings and accessing documents. Iâm going to need further evidence-I hope you can understand.â
Gâs eyes drifted off into space, narrowed in a vain attempt to glare at the mole on the other side of the signal. âI understand.â G said with false, understanding evenness, the glow in his left eye once more aflame against his ossein. âWhat would you like to know?â
âWhat is Lady Salma? The public of Hyabuzna is completely unaware of what she is, and only trusted servants or warriors are permitted to observe her.â Olan said, the tone in his voice indicating a sense of crafty wit. âIâm the only radio operator Lady Salmaâs permitted to continue my functioning in my field, meaning youâre either a rebel spy or youâre truly from somewhere else than here.âÂ
Olanâs words made an unimpressed expression creep its way onto Gâs face, a slight snort escaping him as it did so. âThatâs it?â
Leaning back in his chair slightly, G cockily responded, âA leviathan. Lady Salma is a leviathan.â He paused, seemingly for effect alone. âSheâs no ordinary leviathan, however-oh no! In a sense, sheâs less a leviathan and more of a memetic concept thatâs taken form and sapience. She appears in the minds and memories of those she so chooses, as a polymeliac orca. Once, and only once, has she taken physical form.â
Silence answered the revenantâs statement, giving G the chance to look at Jerry and jab his thumb towards the backdoor with the words, âten minutes to find shit, and weâre leavingâ, playing across his lipless mouth. Jerry merely nodded and began looking through every cupboard, cabinet, and any similar container.
âA-A-Alright....â Came Olanâs shaky response, G returning his attention to the improvised radio set heâd made. âO-One more question, j-just o-o-one....is th-th-this w-wha-wha-wha-what-t-t-t-t I th-th-thin-thin-think it is-s-s-s-s?!â
âItâs a zero-nine-beta-twelve, yeah!â Pulling himself away from the radio set, G clicked his teeth with Thrall appearing at his side in an instant as he summoned the book said bird had given him, into his hand with blue magic. âLetâs go!â The fusion of Sans and Gaster said sternly, face a mask of emotionlessness as, with one look, he sent the makeshift radio set into the aether from which heâd summon it in the event of necessity.
âI got everything I thought you might be able to use, G.â Jerry said nervously, his posture hunched and feeble as said skeletal monster passed by him towards the rear exit.
âGood,â He curtly responded, opening the door with a kick that sent it flying to the now frightened Dogaressa whoâs yelp was almost cute if not for the bloodlust in her eye. ââCause weâre heading to the CORE after this and weâre gonna be running a few errands along the way. First on the agenda-â
âAAAR!!!â Dogaressa bayed, lunging for G with a slobber dripping from her maw like the savage she was only to find beak of a proxying Snowdrake embedded in her shoulder, another yelp being what followed. Her axes fell onto the snow, the blades sinking into the earth below the cold powder at their feet, as she yanked and pulled at the toothed bird whose bite seemed to sink in deeper with each tug.
A few drops of her saliva found themselves in Gâs right eye socket in the instant Dogaressa had been removed from his face, the action leading to Thrall fleeing from his location on said Dog Guardâs torso to allow for its master to take the lead.
The area around them darkened with a matrix of purple squares forming beneath the dishonored Dog Guardsman, Gâs left eye a blaze of disgust and resent. âYouâre disgusting, mutt!â He said, a geyser of liquid light sending Dogaressa skyward with a yelp as the last word left his mouth.
The axe-less bitch found herself literally eye to eye with Gâs shadowed, ghastly, emotionless expression filled with fury in a singular, glowing iris. A whine of fear formed in her throat only to be overtaken by a howl of magic, its power propelling her aggressor through four trees and inevitably decreasing his HP.
âHP: 33/70âłÂ His stats drifted through his thoughts like the snow clouds inside of the cavern they resided in, beneath Mt. Ebott. âDamn,â G chuckled, a trace amount of lifeâs currency dripping from his grin. âI guess I canât underestimate you like I did my first Thrall in this AU. Might as well pull out all the stops, then!â
Saying that, he caught sight of Dogaressa dropping onto the barrack roof and onto the ground to retrieve her axes. Jerry had taken on his disgusting guise to dissuade her from attempting consumption of Thrall or himself, relieving G of concern for replacing a former colleague and a Thrall-both of which he could still find a use for.
His relief was overridden with surprise when he found himself within cleaving distance of Dogaressaâs twin battle axes. Oh shit! Was all that went through his head as he ducked beneath the swing of one heavy blade one moment only to hop onto the flat of the other the next. A small sigh escaped him at that, followed by Dogaressa making to clamp her jaws around Gâs arm and G summoning a large, canid skull from the aether.
âSayonara, bitch!â G smirked, immediately losing the expression when the sound of an ethereal, primordial scream pierced his nonexistent eardrums. âWHAT?!â Dogaressa, although pained by the sound, took the opportunity and flung him into a tree with her axes acting as a catapult. In that moment, everything seemed to slow down for the revenant fusion as he flew towards a spire of wood and bark. His Blaster was screeching-its irises having fractured and eroded into pure light within the empty sockets theyâre housed in-and Dogaressa, having dropped her axes after flinging him, was clasping her ears and in the fetal position in pain from the sound his Blaster was emitting. âI see....â He muttered, his purple eye returning to its original state of being a shade of yellow, this shade however retaining a more tangerine color to it. âTHAT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING!â
It was a moment. A split moment. That it happened. Time returned to normal for the revenant, and he only needed a fraction of it to do what he did next. Blue magic surrounding him, he landed on his feet against the trunk of the conifer, before leaping forward with a quivering engulfing his body in a teleportation maneuver heâd practiced in only the company of a Fell!Papyrus.
The quivering ceased the moment he was translocated a yard away from the P50-sized Blaster with an orange glow around his outstretched, left fist. âSHUT UP!â He commanded, placing his missile-like punch at the interlocking joint of the mandible and the maxilla, the two halves went flying in separate directions with one embedding itself in a tree after cleaving through three while the other was trapped in a blue glow that swung it into being an enormous staple over Dogaressaâs now relaxed body. Releasing a heavy breath, G shakily pulled out his pack of cigarettes and lit one in his mouth, taking a deep, calming, cleansing, satisfactory drag of a well-deserved smoke. âThat took too long,â G muttered with a psuedo-blissed out glaze over his-once more-purple eye, cigarette between his teeth and the cherry burning at its brightest as he took yet another healing drag from the source of his addiction. âWe need to get moving now if weâre of any hope to repair the CORE and save this AU.â Just a few more moments, though.....I can spare just these few moments of peace and smoke, a little longer....
